Course ObjectivesIndia is ambitious to become the second largest quality steel manufacturer in the world. On one hand there are challenges ahead in terms of having sufficient number of young engineers who have adequate fundamental knowledge in iron and steel making processes. On the other, the engineering discipline of metallurgy and materials has become so diversified that the space available for iron and steel making processes in the curriculum is limited. Therefore within the available space the teachers need to be focused so that the best can be delivered to the students. This can be achieved through making the students learn the process fundamentals analytically and quantitatively in place of verbose description of processes. This course
Introductory Lecture (Plant Operation & Need for Understanding Process Fundamentals) - Thermodynamics - Problem Solving Session on Heat & Mass Balance and Equilibrium
BOF Equipment and Process Description - Slag Structure and Phase Diagrams - Reactions involving C, Si and Mn Thermodynamics & Kinetics - Problem Solving Session on Reaction involving C, Si and Mn
EAF Equipment and Process Description - Reactions involving S & P and Degassing - BOF Process Dynamics - Problem Solving Session on Reactions involving S, P, H, N
Deoxidation and Inclusion Control - Vacuum Processing of Steel - VD, RH, RH-OB Ladle Metallurgy Operation, Stirring, mixing, fluid flow, Reactions - Problem Solving on Deoxidation, Stirring and Ladle Reactions
