President Gord’s Vision

In lieu of a Rotary Moment, and appropriate for our upcoming Strategic Planning exercise, President Gord shared his vision of a direction we might want to consider for 2018-19. Gord observed that, in his opinion, the single most significant achievement of Rotary will be the eradication of Polio. Qualicum Beach’s profile of 60% + senior’s means that QB citizens lived through the 40’s and 50’s and are aware of what Polio was and therefore will understand and appreciate the significance of Polio eradication. He reasons that we therefore should consider making Polio eradication our Brand for the coming Rotary year. Thanks Gord, Polio eradication would certainly resonate in our community

Paul Harris for Ron

AG John presented Ron with a Ruby, a second Paul Harris for Ron. A Paul Harris Fellow is a member who contributes $1000US to the Rotary Foundation and for each subsequent $1000 donated a Jewell is added to the donors Paul Harris Pin. Congratulation Ron!

Welcome JoAnn and Marion!

A special moment this morning as AG John inducted JoAnn and Marion into Rotary and into our Club. JoAnn Dunderdale was born and raised in Powell River. He parents and siblings had recently emigrated from the Netherlands. After High School JoAnn moved to Victoria to study Nursing. She worked in a variety of health care settings including acute care, residential care and home and community care as a clinician, educator and manager. JoAnn and Peter have been married 44 years and have two children. Daughter Sara was a Rotary International Student spending a year in Belgium. Son James lives with his family in Parksville so Peter and JoAnn spend lots of time with their grandchildren. JoAnn is looking forward to becoming an active Sunrise Rotarian. Marion Hicklin was born and raised in Lomond, a small farming community in Southern Alberta. After graduation Marion moved to Calgary, took secretarial training and worked for the telephone company until she started a family. Once the children were in school Marion returned to the work force and worked in the food industry, first a Safeway’s warehouse then at Cyba Stevens, a food broker working in Administration then sales. Marion quit working in her forty’s when her husband took early retirement. Marion has volunteered, danced competitively, is a golfer and enjoys many hobbies.

Welcome to Rotary JoAnn and Marion!
