INTRODUCTION

All praises are due to Allah alone, and

peace and blessings be upon the Prophet

Muhammad (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).

BENEFITS OF SALAAH

Hafiz Ibn Qayyum (RA) writes: Salaah

(Namaz) ensures daily bread, promotes

health, drives out diseases, strengthens

the heart, brings light and beauty on the

face, pleases the soul, refreshes the body,

cures indolence, relieves the mind, feeds

the soul, illumines the heart and

guarantees Allah's fear; it grants

protection from Allah's doom, it keeps the

devil away and brings us near to Allah

Ta’ala. In short, Salaah is a guarantee for

all that is described, and a protection

against all that is undesirable for both

body and soul, equally in this world and

the hereafter (Fazaail-e-Namaaz).

Page 4: Qadha Salaah Diary - Madina Masjid

4

Hadhrat ibn Umar (RA) narrates that

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)

said, “The Salaah performed with Jamaat

is 27 times more superior than Salaah

performed individually.” [Bukhari]

Concerning the reward of the missed

Salaah with Jamaat, you should make

Tawbah (repent). Allah will reward you,

and you should make sincere intention to

perform all your Salaah in congregation.

`Uthman bin `Affan reported: I heard the

Messenger of Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi

Wasallam) saying: “One who performs

Isha’ prayer in congregation, it is as if he

has performed Salaah for half of the

night. And one who performs the Fajr

prayer in congregation; it is as if he has

performed Salaah the whole night.”

[Muslim]

Page 5: Qadha Salaah Diary - Madina Masjid

5

Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam)

was asked regarding a person who

misses a Salaah due to sleep or

negligence. Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi

Wasallam) mentioned that its

compensation is that he should perform

the Salaah when he remembers. (Nasaai)

These Ahadeeth, as well as many others,

are clear that any Salaah that has been

missed must be performed when one

remembers.

Many verses of the Quran, as well as

numerous Ahadeeth, stress the

importance of performing Salaah at its

correct and prescribed time. One who

misses a Salaah commits a grievous sin

and Qadha therefore becomes

compulsory on him. There is a consensus

Page 6: Qadha Salaah Diary - Madina Masjid

6

among the jurists that Qadha must be

made for missed Salaahs. Many Ahadeeth

warn us of the consequences of the sin of

missing Salaah: the sinner will burn for

years in the fire of Jahannam (Allah

forbid).

QADHA-UL-UMRI DIARY

As we are heading closer and closer

towards the Day of Judgment, day by day

the Ummah are indulging in vice and

corruption, which has resulted in a great

deficiency in the practice of the

fundamentals of Islam. One of the

greatest and most important

fundamentals of Islam is Salaah.

Concerning this, we have come up with a

scheme to help the Ummah revive this

great act once again. For this reason, we

would like to introduce this pocket size

Qadha Diary. We have focused on Qadha

Page 7: Qadha Salaah Diary - Madina Masjid

7

Salaah, due to the fact that so many

people from the Ummah of the beloved

Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) are

missing Salaah after Salaah without any

concern.

CALCULATING YOUR MISSED SALAAH (COMPILED BY STUDENTS OF DARUL ULOOM BURY)

Firstly, you will need to calculate

approximately how many Salaah you have

missed from the age of puberty. The big

figures that you may work out should not

break your courage. Rather, Shaytaan is

going to work on your mind harder now,

to take you away from this great step that

you would be taking towards getting

closer to Allah Ta’ala and completing your

obligatory duty.

Step 1: Any Fardh or Waajib Salaah that

may have been missed after attaining

Page 8: Qadha Salaah Diary - Madina Masjid

8

puberty (bulughat) needs to be prayed

(Bada-ius sana-I, page 287, vol 1). It is

noteworthy that one may become baaligh

either by having a wet dream or by

reaching the age of pubescence, which is

14 years and 7 months (this is 15 Islamic

years). If someone is uncertain about

when he/she became baaligh naturally

(meaning by a wet dream), then try to

remember any clues that might give an

idea. For example: you remember you just

began high school, then that will indicate

that you must have been about 11 years

old when you became baaligh. There is no

Qadha for the Sunnats and Nafls missed.

Step 2: Calculate how long it has been

since you were baaligh, so you can

determine how many days, months or

years of Qadha Salaah you need to

perform. For example, if your age is 17

Page 9: Qadha Salaah Diary - Madina Masjid

9

and 3 months, and you were baaligh at

the age of 13 and 5 months, then you

know that you need to perform 3 years

and 10 months of Qadha Salaah.

Step 3: This is when you calculate exactly

how many Salaah you might have missed.

Try to remember in an average week, how

many Salaah you used to miss. That might

tell you roughly how many you missed in a

year. For example, if you missed 5 Zuhrs a

week, times by 52 (52 weeks in a year) =

260 Zuhrs per year. Now, after you work

out the average number of Qadha per

year, then deduct or add any change of

pattern in the year, to make your number

more accurate. For example, in Ramadhan

you have prayed most of your Salaah (so

work it out and deduct it) and you might

have 4 holidays in a year, and you might

have not prayed any Salaah in them at all

Page 10: Qadha Salaah Diary - Madina Masjid

10

(add them on). A Muslim sister should

deduct her days of Haidh because she

does not need to pray in those days.

Step 4: Catching up – One easy method of

discharging the outstanding Qadha is to

pray one Qadha before or after each

Salaah, or five Salaah in one go, on a daily

basis. For example, before the Fajr Salaah

perform two rakaats of Fajr Qadha.

Similarly, before or after Zuhr perform the

four rakaats of Zuhr Qadha and likewise

Asr, Maghrib and Isha including Witr. This

way, a day’s Qadha will be performed in a

day. If one has missed three years of

Salaah, then it will take three years to

complete the Qadha and so forth. If

someone dies in the meantime he would

surely have hope in Allah’s mercy; at least

he was in the process of fulfilling the

outstanding Qadha, unlike those who

Page 11: Qadha Salaah Diary - Madina Masjid

11

have no inclination to perform the Qadha

and still vainly hope for Allah’s mercy.

To save more time in completing your

Qadha, during the 3rd

and 4th

Rakaah of

Qadha Zuhr, Asr, Maghrib & Isha, instead

of reciting Surah Fatihah as usual, one can

read Subhaanallah three times then

proceed into Ruku. However, in the Witr

Salaah, one must read Surah Fatihah and

another Surah in all three rakaats.

In Tashahhud (At-tahiyyat), instead of

reading Durood-e-Ibraheem, one may

read any short Durood Shareef.

Qadha Salaah can be performed at

anytime except at the three Makrooh

times which are:

1) Sunrise (when the sun is rising)

2) Zenith (Zawaal time)

Page 12: Qadha Salaah Diary - Madina Masjid

12

3) Sunset (when the sun is setting)

When making Qadha, one must intend,

“From all my Qadha Zuhrs, this is the last

(or first) Qadha”.

If you are in a habit of offering Nafl Salaah,

it is very important that more emphasis is

put on Qadha than Nafl. So if you find

yourself reading a lot of Salaah and think

it’s getting too much then leave your Nafl

Salaah and concentrate on your Qadha.

The Qadha is obligatory!

This booklet will inshaAllah help you

maintain your Qadha Salaah and keep you

punctual until you become ‘Saahibut-

Tarteeb’.

Page 13: Qadha Salaah Diary - Madina Masjid

13

WHO IS A ‘SAAHIBUT-TARTEEB’?

If one has less than 6 Salaah, i.e. 5 or less,

in one's responsibility which have to be

made Qadha of, such a person is called

‘Saahibut-Tarteeb’. If you are still not

certain how many Salaahs you have

missed, contact your local Ulama who will

help you calculate your missed prayers.

Lastly, make lots of Du’aa to Allah Ta’ala

to make it easy for you, for He is the

solution to all our matters. Also it is very

important that you make Tawbah

(repentance) for making your Salaah

Qadha. Just doing your Qadha is not

sufficient for forgiveness. Tawbah

(repentance) is also essential.

Bathe, Five Times A Day

Narrated Abu Huraira (RA):

I heard Allah’s Apostle saying,

“If there was a river at the door of

any one of you and he took a bath

in it five times a day, would you

notice any dirt on him?” They said,

“Not a trace of dirt would be left.”

The Prophet added, “That is the

example of the five prayers with

which Allah blots out (annuls) evil

deeds.”

(Bukhari)
