Question 6 – What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Working Collaboratively

The main way of brainstorming ideas and communicating outside of school was through the website www.blogger.comWe used the website to post about progress individually as well as in terms of a group. This is a great example of how we used the advantages that Web 2.0 brings to further our piece.

Not only this, but to collaborate, we would comment on each other's posts, helping each other to improve ideas to ultimately further the final piece.

The blog has allowed us to look back and track our progress, from day one of pre-production all the way to the creation of the final piece.

YouTubeNot only this but YouTube was used to post the advancements of the piece at different stages in the production so that we could get audience feedback on the piece on how to improve it from outside the production team.

Here is our channel for our content on YouTube, it displays our various cuts of Causation as well as our two pre-liminary productions and our Wilderness Woods piece all of which helped us further progress our final product by learning from our mistakes.

Its clear that our media products have been popular with two of the videos surpassing 200 views, with a majority of the audience giving us feedback also.

The Filming Process

In total we carried out four shoots, the first was the bulk of the filming for the interrogation scene, which we shot in a friends warehouse. The second was the shoot of the murder scene which we shot at a friend's house, the third was shot outside in Rusthall down an alleyway. The final shoot took place in school where we took a few close ups that we missed out in the first shoot. The equipment used throughout the shoots were a Canon DSLR(500D), tripod, track and camframe. The track was only used in the first shoot for the moving over the shoulder shots, obeying the 180 rule and the camframe was only used in the third shoot to steady the camera as the male antagonist moved about the outdoor set. The tripod and camera were used throughout. The main problems and limitations encountered during the shoots was lighting, especially in shoot 3. In shoot 1 we were able to control the amount of light in the shots, thus not being tied down the limitations of the time of day, the same applied for shoot 4. However shoot 3, the outdoor shoot in the alley way was tricky as the light limited the

amount of time available to shoot for this also applied for shoot 2 but not to the same extent as it didn’t take as long. The kit was relatively simple to use however we did encounter a few problems when using the track when the wheels bumped over the track it made the shots look wobbly however these were then amended in editing.

Editing The Final Piece

As our piece has numerous flashbacks taking part throughout the production it was vital to create continuity in the editing so that the audience didn’t become lost in the narrative. To edit we used the software Premier Elements 9.0, this was an editing tool that enabled us to establish a timeline of all of our clips, enabling us to compose a flowing piece.

Haven't finished yet, sorry
