    Q5 : Operational PlanStatement of IntentWe will provide quality childcare for parents who work for Barnet and Chase Farm HospitalsNHS Trust and Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health Trust, plus other NHS staff andassociated workers.AimWe aim to offer non-discriminatory and inclusive childcare to meet the needs of eachindividual child and their families.We comply with the Early Years Foundation Stage, Ofsted and the policies of the Trust to

    ensure all children in our care have the opportunities to develop in accordance with theirinterest and abilities to reach their maximum potential.Methods

    We plan our day in order that children may have a choice and opportunity to developsocial skills

    We ensure children feel welcomed and valued in a safe and secure environment,enabling them to gain self-confidence

    By provision of a warm and secure environment we ensure both children and theirfamilies feel welcomed and valued

    We ensure each child is respected as an individual through observation, assessment

    and monitoring We constantly monitor our practices to ensure an anti-racist, anti-sexist and inclusive

    environment We foster awareness of the needs of a multi-cultural group and the best ways to

    support those needs To provide a well-balanced diet and promote healthy eating which reflect all special,

    cultural and religious dietary requirements To promote personal hygiene and safety through positive role modelling and

    discussion We ensure all staff interact positively with the children to promote mutual respect,

    positive attitudes and also have a caring and consistent handling at all times.Key Worker SystemOur Nursery has in place a Key Worker system which means that each member of staff hasoverall responsibility for a group of named children.A Key Worker:

    will settle the child into the Nursery is primarily responsible for ensuring the childs needs, interests and development are

    met will inform others who will be in contact with the child what the needs, interests and

    development requirements are will record observations, do individual planning and set SMART targets for each of

    their key children to promote an understanding of the childs learning anddevelopment in line with the EYFS.

    Will share information with others to ensure the child is developing appropriately Will feed back information on the child to parents as appropriate or inform others to

    do so.Key Workers do not exclusively work with their named key children. All staff will be workingwith all children at some point throughout the working day; therefore all staff are responsiblefor the care and well being of all the children who attend this Nursery. A member of stafffrom your childs base room will normally be available to feed back to parents in the absenceof the Key Worker.Nursery LayoutOur Nursery is divided into three base rooms, caring for specific age groups, within the samebuilding. These rooms are:

    Baby Room: 6 months 2 years Toddler Room: 2 years 3 years Pre-school Room: 3 years 5 years

    Maria Wilson - Nursery Assistant NVQ 2Working hoursAll staff work a 37.5 hour week, with the exception of two Nursery Nurses who job share. Wework on a rolling shift pattern that covers four weeks.Our shifts are as follows:07.00 15.00

    07.30 15.3008.00 16.0008.30 16.3009.00 17.0009.30 17.3010.00 18.00This shift pattern ensures there is always a senior member of staff on the premises at alltimes during the day and also that we are able to meet our staff to child ratios efficiently andfully.Staff TrainingAll our staff attends the standard Trust induction course when first joining our Nursery. Wealso send all our staff on the following mandatory Trust courses:

    Safeguarding Level 3 Paediatric resuscitation Food hygiene Diversity and equal opportunities Human rights Fire training Back care and manual handling Infection control

    Staff are also required to attend: KSF Appraisal training Team building

    We will send staff on relevant childcare courses provided by the local authority, Enfield

    Council. These include: EYFS training and updates First aid for babies and young children Learning through play

    S.E.N.Co training

    We encourage our staff to further their personal development by working towards higherlevels of childcare qualification, such as N.V.Q.3, by attending college.All training and qualifications are recorded in our training folder.MeetingsWe aim to have regular staff meetings and encourage each room to have monthly planningmeetings. All staff are encouraged to bring any issues to members of the senior staffenabling us to resolve these issues quickly, practically and fairly working towards a

    satisfactory outcome which helps us to work in a calm, friendly and productive setting whichultimately has a positive effect on the Nursery as a whole. The Senior Manager also hasmonthly one to ones with our line manager, Yemisi Oluyede, Assistant Director of WorkforceDevelopment.Equipment and CurriculumOur equipment and resources are provided to develop different areas of each childspotential. Our equipment is maintained and replaced as necessary.Our curriculum is in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and through planning

    and observation of key children our staff are able to offer a top quality curriculum. Thisencourages learning through play and enables the child to meet expected age/stagerelevant learning goals as laid out in the EYFS. The EYFS covers six areas of learning asfollows.

    Personal, Social and Emotional Development Communication, Language and Literacy Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy Knowledge and Understanding of the World Physical Development Creative Development.

    We plan for both indoor and outdoor activities throughout the year using long, medium andshort-term (weekly) plans, which cover all of the above-mentioned areas. We aim to includeand celebrate special days, festivals and cultural occasions in our plans. Unexpected eventssuch as weather changes and visitors etc can be accommodated.
