How effective is the combination of your main media product and
ancillary texts?
Music video, DVD digipak and magazine advert:To ensure the three products flow throughout, I made sure I had established certain themes that I could base my products
around.
• Rural, matching the folk-style music in the video with the images in the digipak and advert.
• A theme of brown paper has been used throughout because I wanted it the products to have a rougher edge to them, and to also look more handmade and again match the genre of music.
• Reoccurring objects and motifs in this project mainly involve old pictures which are shown in both the video and the digipak.
• Similar locations, every picture taken for these three media products are located around the same area but especially in fields, woods and lake-sides. The photographs taken for the digipak have the trees and walkway in the background that were used for the video, hopefully creating a link for the audience to notice.
Suitability for the band; My Bubba & Mi
• Rustic similarities• Colour scheme• Natural light and lack any evidence
of advanced technology• Consistency between the media
products like the existing ones
Inspiration from existing My Bubba & Mi products
Once finding a track on Jamendo and determining a theme and genre of music I wanted to portray I was able to plan the media products so that they would tie in with each other
Same photos are used in both the video and digipak to show continuity.
Use of Photoshop brushes to make the brown paper bag effect in all of these products. Editing is used to blend and bind the photographs to the poster/digipak and avoid the glamorized look which a lot of artists want in today's music industry, however adding that effect to a folk band would completely contradict the values and iconography of the artist throughout.
Styling of the artist is continuous:
Floaty dresses were mainly the look I was going for, for the artist but this slightly changed with the music video because I needed to use my sombre colours to contrast against the colourful ending to show relief.
