PWG Genetics Pte Ltd

PWG Laboratories in Singapore by PWG Genetics was established in 2005 to provide excep-

tional preclinical research services, animal model PWG SPF Micropig, NHP and conventional animal models to the growing biomedical research community.

OECD/US FDA GLP Compliant study services in the area of drug and medical device development including toxicology/pharmacology, bioanalysis and ISO10993 Bio-compatibility Testing as well as discovery, effi cacy trials are off ered with a high scientifi c quality.

AAALAC accredited Micropig/Animal research facilities are also equipped with MRI, Micro-CT/PET, C-Arm X-ray and angiography enabling state-of-the-art animal imaging required for multi-disciplinary investigations.

PWG Micropig®

Micropig, as the NEXT GENERATION animal model

There are no single animal species duplicating all the characteristics of human biology and

diseases but PWG Micropig® is the next generation ani-mal model that comes close to the this unmet need in bio-medical research, enhancing translational potential of the research results into human with safety and practicality.

PWG Micropig becomes popular as the most ap-propriate animal model for biomedical re-

search as well as in teaching and training.

PWG Micropig have a slow to moderate growth of about 2 kg or less per month based on their special genetic, manage-ment and nutrition programs. The three common types of PWG Micropig® that are recognized and maintained based on their typical growth weight development;

M (Middle)-type, T (Tiny)-type and ET (Extra Tiny)-type.

Growth Curve

OriginPWG Micropig belongs to the ge-

nus Sus and species scrofa. It is a product of synthetic or composite mix-ture of various subspecies, domestic, native and miniature breeds and strains of swine that is purposely bred to be docile, easy to handle, compact in size and an excellent laboratory animal for biomedical research.

Why PWG Micropig?

1. Scientific and Ethical Reasons

Anatomical, Physiological and Metabolic Similarities to human - Skin, Gastrointestinal Tract, Cardiovascular System, Metabolism, Urogenital System, Teratogenic Sensitivity and Juvenile Development Lower ethical concernsAccepted as non-rodent species for regulatory studies

2. High health status, Specific-Pathogen-Free (SPF) purpose-bred

Enhanced data credibilityMicrobiologically defi ned for specifi c pathogensMinimum risk of zoonosis Prevent adverse eff ects on research results caused by clinical disease and antibodies

3. Smaller size, slow growth rate and early maturity

Small size but large enough for scientifi c/biological manipulation, samplempling and investigationBirth weight ~0.5kg or lessOnset of sexual maturity reaches as early as 3 months of ageSubtypes (M, T and ET) with diff erent growth rate to choose from depending on the purpose of researchMaintain body weight and size throughout adulthood similarly like adult human

4. Advantages

Possible to use all standard routes of administration and samplingLess amount of drug material required; more suitable for drug discovery Long term studies possible without burdens in drug material cost or animal handling.

Health Monitoring Program

PWG health monitoring program is a compre-hensive animal herd screening conducted

in house regularly to maintain microbiologically defi ned, healthy micropig herd. Certain numbers of animals are randomly selected per animal room for sampling and to represent the herd considering all variation. Various samples are collected from chosen animal depending upon the pathogen being tested.
