Push the Boat Out @ Derwent ReservoirSaturday 21st July 2012

To help inspire our future Olympic athletes and support our Olympic sailors andcelebrate their past successes the RYA are planning a series of events around thecountry on the week before the London 2012 Olympics begin. At DerwentReservoir we are proud to be taking part in these events and are planning a day toremember. Wed like to see every sailor and windsurfer from the clubafloat on Saturday 21st July. It doesnt matter if youve never competitivelysailed, or if youve maybe not yet had the boat or board on the water this season, the more craft and people on the water the more spectacular the day will be.

12:00 Start of 12 hour sail in aid of Sail4CancerWith the theme of2012 what better way to celebrate the challenge of reachingOlympic standard sailing than by getting teams of boats sailing continuously for 12hours? We think the answer is obvious do it for charity! And Sail4Cancerseemed the perfect fit. So we are inviting teams ofup to 12sailors to sail thesame boat continuously for 12 hours starting at 12 noon and sailing into thedarkness, with sponsorship being divided between Sail4Cancer and DerwentReservoir Sailing Club.

If you are interested in taking on the challenge please contact Calum Polwart

Sailing Secretary ([email protected]). If you cant find others to share the challengewith you, let Calum know and hell try and link you up with other like mindedsailors. Entry into the 12 hour sailing challenge is strictly by prior arrangement to ensurethat we have sufficient resources available for safety cover during darkness.

The 12 hour sail is not a race, its a challenge to keep the boats sailing continuouslyapart from crew changes. There will, however, be a course to be sailed and therewill be prizes for the team who complete the largest number of laps and the helm

and crew who individually complete the largest number of laps.

13:00 Olympic Relay RacesWe thought wed warm up the Olympic competition by crossing the 4 x 400mOlympic Relay Races with Sailing! Sailors will need to sail a short course and thenpass a baton to the next boat in their team. Prize for the first team round thecourse. We will need all the teams to be made of the same designs of boat soplease do ask around your fleet and let us know you want to take part in advance

([email protected]). Open to windsurfing entries too.
