He has generously named this dahlia cultivar ‘The Taltree Dahlia’ donated some of the stock for our fund raising effort. This dahlia is only offer during the plant sale at Taltree Arboretum and we have a very limited quantity . This dahlia is a cheery red with a yellow center. The foliage has a purple tinge that looks chocolaty. Grow in full sun. Great in large containers. 3-5’ tall. Non-stop bloomer until frost. $10 Aconitum nepellus

Calamagrostis acutiflora

Reed Grass ‘Karl Foerster’ (Perennial). A slender, upright grass for the garden, landscape or water’s edge. Red-bronze flower spikes dry to a golden buff color, excellent as dried flowers or for winter interest. Forms neat clumps and ideal for small gardens. Excellent winter interest if left standing until spring. Can be used in containers but needs to overwinter in the ground. 2001 Perennial Plant of the year. Hardiness Zone 4-8. Blooms early to midsummer. Full Sun. Up to 6’ tall. $5

Turtlehead ‘Hot Lips’ (Perennial). Striking flowers, set off nicely by dark foliage, attracts butterflies and hummingbirds to your garden. Adds late-season color for shaded gardens. A great plant to combine with fall anemones and asters. Grows well in moist or average soil but will need more moisture in full sun. Hardiness Zone 3-8. Blooms late summer into early fall. Full sun to part shade. 2-3’ tall. $5

Geranium

Cranesbill ‘Johnson’s Blue’ (Perennial). Striking flowers attract butterflies to the garden. Provides a beautiful compliment to delphinium, daylilies, foxglove and lady’s mantle, or use as a small-scale ground cover. Shear after flowering for best appearance and to encourage rebloom. Hardiness Zone 4-8. Blooms from early summer to late summer. Full sun to part shade. 18-24” tall. $5

Iris siberica

Siberian Iris ‘Caesar’s brother’ (Perennial). Nice all season plant with tall, bright flowers. Grasslike foliage works well with hostas, coral bells and lady’s mantle and looks nice reflecting against water. Attractive fall color and ornamental seedpods for winter effect and dried arrangements. Hardiness Zone 3-9. Blooms in early summer. Full sun. Height 3-4’ $5

Salix integra

Dappled Willow ‘Hakuro-nishiki’ (Perennial Shrub). ‘Hakuro-nishiki’ (synonymous with ‘Albo-maculata’), commonly called dappled Japanese willow or variegated willow, is a more compact cultivar that typically grows to 4-6’ tall (less frequently to 10’ tall) and features attractive variegated foliage throughout the growing season. New foliage emerges pink in spring, maturing to variegated shades of pink, creamy white and green. Narrow, lance-shaped leaves (to 4” long) are particularly attractive in spring to early summer, but gradually fade to mostly green as summer progresses. Stems turn red (primarily the new growth).

Coleus

Coleus (Annual). Our varieties can tolerate both sun and shade. The coloration is more intense when planted in brighter light. Use as a foliage plant in garden beds or use in containers. Coleus blends will with most plants but can make a great statement massed out without any companions. Hardiness: Tender annual. Will succumb to temperatures below 45 F. Height 6-18”. Propagated from Taltree’s greenhouse collection. $3

Sedums (Perennial). Succulent evergreen groundcovers. Several varieties to choose from. Heat and drought tolerant groundcovers that are perfect for tough areas that get really hot and dry such as rock gardens or along the edge of walks or driveways. Often used for green roofs. Sedum varieties range in color from blue, yellow, red, green and gray. Also a perfect choice for containers in hot places ort grown with coleus. Some varieties have colorful flowers. Hardiness

Zone 4-8. Full to part sun. Blooms early to mid-summer. Propagated from Taltree gardens. $3

Phlox paniculata

Garden Phlox ‘David’ (Perennial). 'David' is a garden phlox cultivar that typically grows in an upright clump to 3-4' tall. Fragrant, tubular flowers are pure white. Individual flowers are densely arranged in large, terminal, pyramidal clusters (panicles to 6-12" long) in summer atop stiff, upright stems which seldom need staking.

Long mid to late summer bloom sometimes extends into early fall. Narrow, opposite, pointed, lance-shaped leaves (to 5" long). Good fresh cut flower. Good choice for a moon garden. Hardiness Zone 3-8. Full sun to part shade. $5
