William D. Agee, Jr.C.P.M., C.E.M., CMN, CPE, CPP, CPIM, SSBB

Prior to starting his own firm in 1991, William Agee was a Vice-President in a

large international management, consulting, and educational firm. He has been involved in purchasing and materials management at various levels for over thirty-years. His purchasing experience includes government (Federal and State), wholesale, retail, service, industrial and manufacturing.

Agee holds degrees in marketing and management. He is also a Certified Production and Inventory Manager (CPIM) by the American Society of Production and Inventory Control Society and Six-Sigma Black Belt. In addition to being a speaker for ISM, he has held both local and national offices within the organization, and has written several articles for leading purchasing and business publications.

Agee has developed over 172 educational programs for organizations primarily focused in the areas of supply chain management (SCM), contracting and purchasing. He is the 2005 ISM winner of the Howard W. Cosgrove Award for outstanding contribution to the profession.

Mark Grieco is senior partner at the law firm of Grieco & Scalera, P.A. The firm specializes in corporate practice with

an emphasis on contracts, software licensing, e-commerce, corporate formation, intellectual property, insurance litigation, mergers and acquisitions. He is involved in contract negotiation, implementation, and enforcement at the corporate level and serves as an arbitrator and mediator.

Grieco is a member of the Florida Bar and the American Bar Association. He has extensive educational experience, with an emphasis on the purchasing module, and has a substantial background in computer, e-procurement and software issues. He is a frequent world-wide lecturer on the subjects of contracts, software licensing, intellectual property, ethics, international purchasing and negotiations, and is currently one of the only instructors in the field of e-commerce.

Grieco has most recently authored “Purchasing Contract Law, UCC & Patents,” highlighting major aspects of corporate contracts and intellectual property.

UHCL/CAMP Certificate ProgramsIn many cases, professional development certificate programs may be more relevant than an advanced degree. They are designed for working adults with a particular focus that concentrates on specialized study to complement and expand their existing knowledge and skills. Courses are structured and focused on meeting your job and career requirements and goals. Many individuals with college degrees and even advanced degrees are pursuing certificate programs to energize their careers, update professional expertise, explore emerging specialties in new fields of study, justify promotion through needed training for professional development, and create opportunities for a new career.

Current tax law permits deductions for educational expenses, including registration fees, travel, meals and lodging to maintain or improve professional skills. Consult a tax specialist for detailed information.

Purchasing/Supply Chain Management CertificateAdmissionTo pursue a professional certificate in Purchasing/Supply Chain Management (PSCM), formal application (see page 14) must be requested before or soon after beginning the course work. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) earned for courses completed before application is officially made, may be applied toward the certificate program requirements with the approval of the program director.

Admission decisions are based on education, personal experience and employment history. Primary consideration is given to potential for successfully completing the program.

Certificate RequirementsThe program requires completion of 84 hours of organized instruction (or 8.4 Continuing Education Units). This consists of six courses meeting for two seven-hour sessions. The core and elective courses must be completed within two years of entering the program to earn the certificate.

Additionally, applicants must:

• Meet all application and admission requirements and be formally accepted in the program.

• Complete all courses with a minimum grade of 70% examination.

• Settle all financial obligations with the university.

Participants who successfully fulfill all of the requirements for this non-credit program of study will earn the Certificate in Purchasing/Supply Chain Management from the Center for Advanced Management Programs, University of Houston-Clear Lake School of Business.

Credits EarnedAccording to the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) applicants must earn 84 Continuing Education Hours (CEHs) during their current certification period of five years, and Certified Professional in Supply Management (C.P.S.M.) applicants must earn 60 CEHs during their current certification period of three years.

All of the courses in this curriculum, whether taken individually or as part of the complete certificate program:

• Meet ISM requirements for CEHs.

• Approved for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) of credit.

• Approved for Continuing Professional Education (CPEs) units by the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy.

The CurriculumThe curriculum approved by the Center for Advanced Management Programs includes topics on contract writing, interpreting financial statements, basic and advanced skills for negotiating, regulatory issues, leases, service agreements, defective material claims processing, business writing techniques, computerized purchasing systems and management of key suppliers.
