However, it can also getexasperating at times. TeachWithWordsYou should teachyourpuppya fewwords after yourpuphas learned the twomostimportantwords.Thesetwowordsare:

●‘NO’,and●‘GOOD’

It’snotjusttheroutinesthatyouwillneedtoteachyourpup.Youwillneedtoteach it words as well. Whenever your puppy does something that youappreciate, showyour appreciation by saying “good”, and if your puppy doessomethingundesirablethensay“no”.Youcanstartwiththiswhenyourpupisabouttwomonthsold.Thesewordsshouldbetaughtinapropermanner.Yourbodylanguageandtonemakeallthedifference.Ifyougetyourpuppywhenitismore than three months old, you should start teaching these two wordsimmediately.

BiscuitTrainingShouldBeAvoidedPuppies love treats. However, coaxing good behavior with treats should beavoided.Don’trelyontreatsfortrainingyourpuppy.Youmightbewonderingwhat is wrong with it. When you start practicing “biscuit training”, you aregivingup thedecisionmakingpower toyourpuppy.Dependingonwhetherornotyourpuppyishungry,yourpuppywilldecide to listen toyou.Thisallowsyourpuppytobelievethathedoesn’thavetolistentoyou.This doesn’t mean that you should deprive your puppy of treats altogether.Treats can be used for motivation, especially while teaching tricks. HousebreakingWhenyourpuppyistwotothreemonthsold,youcanstartwithhousebreakingtraining.Atwo-montholdpuppyisasgoodasaninfantbaby.Theywon’thavemuch control over their bladder. Especially a small breed puppy. They don’tdevelopcontrolovertheirbladderforseveralmonths.Still,youshouldstartyoureffortsathousebreakingsinceyougetyourpuppyhome.Startoutbyestablishingapattern.Thiswillhelpyourpuppytocooperatewithyouaswell.However,ifyougetthiswrong,housebreakingwillbenothingshortof a nightmare. Most owners don’t realize it until their puppy has had anaccident in the house. These accidentswill start becoming a routine, and it isreallydifficulttochangethispattern.Therearedifferentwaysinwhichyoucanstartthisout.Thiswouldincludemakinguseofacrate,adoggydoor,orevenalitter box for smaller breeds. AcceptanceYouwillalsoneedtostarthandlingyourpuppy.Thisistheonlywayinwhichhewouldaccepteverythingthatyoudowithhim.Yourpuppywillneedtoseeyouas the leader in thehome.Being the leaderdoesn’tmean thatyouwill simplyhavetokeepdecidingwhat’sokayandisn’tokayforyourpuppy.Forinstance,brushing, bathing, clipping your pup’s nails, putting a collar on, a harness, orevengivingyourpupapill.Whenitcomestothesethings,itisyouandnotyourpuppythatgetstodecidewhatneedstobedone.Thebestway,inwhichyoucando this, would be to include some respect lessons along with the vocabularylessons.Ifyouteachthewordsandthepuppyrespectsyoutoo,thenacceptancewillfollowsuit.

HouseholdRulesYouwillneed to teachyourpuppyabout thebehaviors thatareacceptableandaren’t acceptable in the house. Is he allowed to chew on shoes? No. Is heallowed to jump on someone’s lap or sit on the furniture when others arepresent?Yougettodecidethis,andeveryoneinthehouseholdshouldfollowthesame too. Isheallowed toenter thekitchenwhile food isbeingcooked?Thismightbeunsafeforthepuppy,soprobablyno.Evensimplethingslikewhetherornotheisallowedtotakesocksfromthelaundrypile,sleepinginyourbedatnight,orevenbarkingatstrangerswhenheseesthemfromthewindow.Youwillneedtodecideonthehouseholdrules,andthenbeconsistentinmakingyourpuppy listen toyou. Ifyouhavedecided that something isn’t acceptable,thenconveythesametotheothersinthehousetoo.Youshouldn’tconfuseyourpuppy.

TipsforOlderPuppiesYoumightthinkthatthetrainingschedulemightbedifferentforanolderpuppy.Well, it really isn’t. Regardless of the age of the puppy, the training scheduleshouldbethesame.Youwillneedtostartoutwithvocabularytraining.Startoutwith the basic routine, praise, corrective words, crate training, acceptancetraining,gentleness,andevenhouseholdrules.So, ifyourpuppy isstilleatingoff your hand, barking at strangers, or doesn’t stopwhenyou tell him to, thiswouldbetherighttimetostartoutwiththebasictraining.Startoutwithsimpleandessentialwords likenoandgood,beforemovingonto thewords likestay,sit,orevenheel.Respectwillalwaysneedtocomefirstregardlessofhisage.Moveontootherwordsafterhegetstounderstandthebasicones.Likewalkingon the leashwithout tugging at it, coming to youwhen called, lying down orstayingstill,waitingatthedoorevenwhenit'sopen,tostopbarkingwhenyoutell him to and so much more. All these skills would involve your puppylearningupnewwords.Itisnotjustaboutlearningwhatthesewordsmean;itisalso about doing what they mean. You will need to teach these words in aspecificmanner.Thiswillhelpinyourpuppyseeingyouasaleader.Givinghimtreatswon’tbeofanyhelp.Leadershipdefinitelydoesn’tmeanhittingyourpuppy,ormakinguseofchokecollars. There are certain little things that you will need to do and say whileinteracting with your puppy. All puppies will misbehave from time to time.However,themannerinwhichyourespondtothemmakesallthedifference.Ifyou keep responding in the wrong manner, then the puppy will keep onmisbehaving.Ifyourespondinadesirablemanner,hewill thinkofyouas theleader.Itisbestifyoucangetthisrightsincethebeginning.Withanewpuppy,yougetthechancetoteachhimalltherighthabitsandcorrectthemwheneverhedoessomethingwrong.

Staring“What areyou thinking?”youmightwonder, asyourpuppy is lookingat youlongingly.Ifyouhavealreadyfedhimandhavealsotakenhimoutforawalk,itmightbereallydifficulttofigureoutwhatheisthinking.Dogstendtogazeattheir owners, intently. Probably this isn’t a sign of boredom. He is probablystaringatyouintentlybecausehewantsatreat,wantstoplay,orjustwantsyoutopethimforawhile.Yourdogmightalsobedoingthisbecausehewantssomeextraattentionandlove.

LookingSadDoyoufeelreallyguiltywhenyouleaveyourpuppyhomealoneandheadouttowork thewholeday?Youmightworry that your dogwouldbe sad thewholeday.Unlessyourpuppyhasseparationanxiety,yourpuppywillbeperfectlyfine.Infact,ifyouhaveadogwalkercheckinginonyourdog,thenthepuppywouldgreet himwith awagging tail. Your puppymight seem confused or even sadwhenyou leave,but they tend togetused toyour routine.They tend to adaptthemselves to it. HindersDestructiveChewingMostofthepuppiesandadultdogstendtochewalot,especiallywhiletheyareteething.Ifyouwanttosaveyourhouseholditems,thenitisimportantthatyouteachthemwhattheyshouldandshouldn’tchew.Ifyourpupregularlychewsonsomething,anditisallowedtodoso,thenthiswillbecomeahabit.Ifyourpupchews on slippers, cushions, shoes, or anything else regularly, then this willbecome a habit for him. If you are supervising your puppy and you see thisbehavior, then you can redirect your pup to chew somethingmore acceptable.However,ifsupervisionisn’tpossible,thenyoucanplacetheminthecratewiththeirchewtoys.Thiswillteachyourpuptochewonthecorrecttoysandpreventthemfromchewingthewrongones.

SafeTravelForairtravel,yourpuppywillneedtobecrated.Iftheyareusedtobeinginacrateanyway,thentheywillbecalmerandreadyforthewholeexperience.Theydon’t need to be crated while in a car, but it will be better if they are.
