A compliant BEP will demonstrate how the requirements outlined in the EIRs will be met.
The content of the BEP covers three main areas:
Technical – details of• Software Platforms• Data Exchange Format• Co-ordinates• Level of Detail• Training
Management – details of• Standards• Roles and Responsibilities• Planning the Work and Data Segregation• Security • Coordination and Clash Detection Process• Collaboration Process• Health and Safety and Construction Design Management• Systems Performance• Compliance Plan• Delivery Strategy for Asset Information
Commercial – details of BIM Model deliverables, timing of data drops and definitions of information purposes• Data drops and project deliverables• Clients Strategic Purpose• Defined BIM/Project Deliverables• BIM-specific competence assessment

Information on the production of the pre-contract execution plan is given in PAS 1192-2 clause 6.2

The Role of the Information Manager
10
10
Information ManagerPAS 1192-2: 3.26 information management
tasks and procedures applied to inputting, processing
and generation activities to ensure accuracy andintegrity of information
NOTE 3 On projects led with the CIC BIM Protocol
(2013), a key role is the information manager. The
information manager has a role in facilitating the
management of the federated model and the
production of project outputs. The information
manager is also responsible for managing the
operation, standards and culture of the common data
environment. The information manager is not a
standalone role and is expected to shift from design
team to contractor prior to start on site. Under the BIM
Protocol, a client is obliged to appoint an information
manager at all project stages.

BIM Execution Plan
• This is a plan which outlines the entire BIM from inception to post-completion
• This is produced at the start of the project and controls all aspects of BIM
• There are various versions of the plan; CH2M use the Penn State BIM Execution Plan
• Within the BEP are:
– Information exchange requirements
– Level of Detail at each information exchange
– Software and hardware requirements
– Defined roles, including Information Manager

Federated models
Benefits include clash detection, improved design coordination / collaboration
It will usually mean a file type such as IFC will need to be output. As this is a common file type that contains all the non geometric data too.
Federated models
Allow all parties involved in the design or supply chain to work on one information model. Referencing only published data via the Common Data Environment.
All files names will be to the project standards
This approach will allow discipline based models. Civil, structural etc.. This will ensure all relevant health & safety, design standards and codes are met.
Also allow the control of sensitive data.

Exporting Asset Information
18
19
“Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie) is a non-proprietary data format for the publication of a subset of building information models (BIM) focused on delivering asset data as distinct from geometric information. ”

COBie Floor and space information from Revit
23
Project Example – FM System integration
• Assets tagged and full manufacturer data sets available in (or linked to) the model
24
Delivering dataUsing a standardised structure we can deliver better quality data on EA elements aligned to AIMS and further granularity of data specific to TEAM2100.
This is example of our Part A assessments delivered from GIS into the COBie data structure
25
COBie can be used to transfer health & safety data
“Issues” can cover:• Environmental• Functional• Quality• RFI• Safety• And anything else!

Data needs
• To fully realise and maximise the potential of the data model some view on the following are required, working backwards from final handover:
– Asset management information needs
– Construction information needs
– Estimator information needs
– Design information needs
– Inspection information needs
– Other: cost/programme/HSE/quality/contractual etc
• View on that above will maximise the development, use and re-use of information and enrich the quality of information we have
