Activities in the Park
Pumalín Park offers the adventurous traveler aplethora of opportunities for exploration, wildlife-watching, learning, and relaxing. Sea kayakers canexplore the Comao and Reñihué fjords, where dolphins,sea lions, and even whales are spotted frequently.Hikers can find a range of trails, from beginner toadvanced, leading to waterfalls, up volcanoes, andthrough the dense rainforest. Skilled climbers will findendless unclimbed peaks to explore, with massivegranite walls and expansive glaciers. Those interested inPumalín's diverse and unusual flora can enjoyself-guided botanical walks. Cyclists are welcome andencouraged to travel through the park.
Access
Encompassing a vast wilderness area, where steeppeaks meet the ocean and dense wet forests crowd thehillsides, Pumalín's geography presents somechallenges for travelers. Planning your visit ahead oftime will enable you to explore the park more fully.
The Park has several access points and areas: PumalínNorth, which extends south from the town ofHornopirén through the Comau fjord and doesn't haveland access; Pumalín West, centered on the touristamenities at Caleta Gonzalo; and Pumalín South, whichreaches to the small town of El Amarillo. Most of theaccess to the park is along the Carretera Austral, Chile'sSouthern Highway, and the ferries that bridge gaps inthe road.
