SUMMER BIBLE STUDY

“Questioners Wanted!”

Come study the Bible this summer, led by Pastor

Kate and other church leaders. Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians

and Galatians are all letters to the early church and the beginning

of the Christian theology that forms our faith. We could share a

light meal and share our questions about our faith on

Wednesday nights starting July 2, from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. We will

meet in the (air-conditioned!) lounge.

There will be a break on July 16 for VBS week.

Sign up for babysitting, Bible study and refreshments in the back

of the church on Sundays or call the church office.

Come on! Do it! This is a great way to meet others and grow

in your relationships!

Children and Worship: 1. The Children’s choir will sing on Mother’s Day May 11. We hope you all join us on a day when we honor the women of our church.

2. Please join our children and youth for Youth Sunday service on June 8. This service is created and completed by the children and youth of our congregation. Come hear the children sing and the bells ring as we honor our Lord Jesus Christ. Sunday May 4: Sunday May 4 will be a very special day in our church. It is the day we accept into membership our confirmation youth. It is the day that we will present to you the children who have received communion education and who will now take communion with a new understanding. Please join us for worship on this exciting day! 4th and 5th grade Retreat: Your $20.00 deposit for the 4th and 5th grade retreat to Johnsonburg is due now. All of our 4th and 5th grade children and 1 friend may attend. We will leave Collingswood at 4:30pm on Friday May 30 and we will return around 7:00 on Saturday May 31. The cost for the retreat is $50/pp. Through a generous donation each church member will receive a $15.00 gift toward the cost (now only $35.00); friends must pay full amount. The price will include lodging, bible study, activities, Friday night snack, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday. We will purchase dinner at Hot Dog Johnnies on our way up and we will stop for a snack on our way home. Please provide your child with an extra $10.00. Summer Sunday School: As we have in the past, we request that the members of our congregation sign up in pairs to teach an abbreviated lesson to the children of our church. You can pick up a prepared lesson in my office at least one week prior to your teaching date. Most of the items you need to teach your lesson can be found right here at church. If you need ANY assistance with your lesson I am available to help you; all you need to do is contact me either at home or here at church. This is a GREAT opportunity for our choir members to teach and for the member who cannot commit during the school year. Note that attendance can be low at times due to summer vacations. Please see the list of available dates on the podium.

Qualities for Eldering

Ina Albert

These are the qualities by which I chose to guide my life in my elder

years. But, in order to be tangible, they had to have character;

they had to come alive so that I could include them in my everyday

struggle to become whole. They are role models based on women

I have known who personify these qualities for me. Their example

makes it possible for me to fulfill life’s blessings.

Integrity is clear about most everything. When she is not, she sits

down and thinks hard about how to keep herself feeling like a whole

piece of cloth without a single tear or rip. She loves seeing patterns

come together, and pretty soon she knows what to do. She has

abundant patience, inner strength and wisdom, but she never tells

others what to do. She simply helps them discover what is right for

them.

Connection relates to everything and to everyone. She is an

optimist and a toucher. She loves to hug and tells Health that they

must hug each other thirteen times a day to stay well. Connection also

talks to trees and plants and rocks and to God every day. She is joined

to every cell in her body, to every living creature, and relates to the

planet and the whole Universe. She says you have to be connected to

feel alive and to be holy.

7 Page

Health is a strong women. She jogs every day, eats organic food,

thinks good thoughts, meditates and prays. Her body is supple, but

she sees changes in her skin and feels tightness in her joints. She

needs more rest than she used to and sometimes forgets things. But

she has gathered more wisdom, her heart is open and she is calm. As

Health reaches elderhood, she is growing deeper inside rather than

getting stronger outside.

Spirit is the mother of everything. Since she is the ultimate

creator, she is in everything and is everywhere. Yet, she is invisible.

You can only feel her presence. As Spirit creates, she leaves her seeds

behind to grow which makes her the strongest force there is. Lots of

people have relationships with Spirit, though she never utters a single

word. Somehow, she sends messages without talking out loud.

    GRIEF AND HEALING

However painful it is to bid farewell to one who has died,

once you have done so,

you begin a new relationship with them,

one you can always cherish.

Once you release them from earthly time,

you can embrace them in eternity.

When you release them from the physical dimension,

you can hold them close in a dimension no less real;

the spiritual one.

For, even though they no longer walk beside you,

they will be even closer.

They will be within you.

And you will not forget them, because you cannot forget them.

They will be as near to you as your own breathing,

and as much a part of you as your own dreaming.

They will exist in you as love.

10 Page

    Five Gifts from God

Shock - A Gift from God to help us get through the early days of grief.

Denial - A Gift from God so that we can accept pain slowly.

Anger - God’s Gift is a release of energy. A Catalyst that starts the healing.

Depression -God’s Gift is this disintegration (falling apart) of our whole selves where mind, body and spirit learn to live in our new world and this then leads to acceptance.

Faith - The promise of things not seen - the hope that today will not always be the color of tomorrow. Through all of your moments you belong to God - your yesterdays, your todays and your tomorrows. Each color of the rainbow is a gift necessary for your healing. God walks with you through all of your days.

Urban Promise

“This is one of the best faith-based grassroots organizations I have ever seen and an inspiring example of how the love of Christ can hit the streets ”

This powerful quote is from a magazine article that talks about a group in Camden called “ U rban Promise”

This year the Deacons are looking to expand the ways our church gives back the community, and we would like the congregation to join us. The challenge is finding an organization that can use our help, is local to our church, and also provides flexibility for our members to take part in whichever manner they feel comfortable. Urban promise has all this and more.

The Deacons have visited their campus in Camden and it is a fantastic facility in a safe part of Camden. They have a very well run organization with many ways for us to volunteer our talents and energy.

Their programs include a school for ages K-8, after school programs, summer programs, sports leagues, and a young leadership development training.

The groups mission statement is “ T o equip Camdens children and young adults with the skills necessary for academic achievement, life management, spiritual growth, and Christian leadership ”…..and we can be a small part of that goal.

The Mayfair is Coming!!

Saturday, May 24th

Come one, come all, to a fun morning

of fellowship and balloon

inflating! CPC inflates, knots, and puts strings on about

200 balloons! For those of you who are really brave,

we could also use a few friendly CPC members to hand

out the balloons during the Mayfair. Last year a team

of about 12 people did this. We were done in 2

hours! This is a great way to mingle with CPC members

and spread the joy of our church with others. Contact

TVEBO

On Sunday, April 6, Lorrie Heuser, Karen Mazak and Pastor Kate

attended a workshop on Sudan and the continuing genocide in

Darfur. The most vulnerable in that country are the women,

children and young boys. Rape and mutilation are tools of war

used against women while their husbands and children are forced

to watch. Young boys are killed or forced into serving in the

military for the Muslim government in the North.

The Sudan is the largest African country, rich in oil and arable

land, especially in the South Sudan. China is the major reason

why the fighting continues as the North literally rapes the South

Sudan. Nineteen percent of China’s oil comes from Sudan. This

is one of the reasons why some are trying to boycott the Olympics

held in China this summer.

Our committee is looking for ways to send clothing and money

for milling and sewing machines to provide a cottage industry for

these desperate people.
