  • History of CHANCE in Civil Construction. . . standard construction practices to build onOver 95 years of Chance engineering research anddevelopment have brought the unique advantages of helicalanchors to meet today's construction challenges.

CHANCE is the world leader in screw anchor technology.Regardless of the application, CHANCE products and methods areefficient and predictable. They give a cost-effective alternatives totraditional construction methods.

CHANCE helical anchors extend bearing plates into stable strataunder soft, loose or expansive surface soils without significantdisturbance.

The HELICAL PULLDOWN Micropile is a system for constructing agrout column around the shaft of a standard HELICAL PIERFoundation Systems pile.To begin the process, a screw anchor is placed into the soil by applyingtorque to the shaft. The helical shape of the bearing plates creates atremendous pulling force that keeps the anchor advancing downwardinto the soil. After the lead section with the helical plates penetrates thesoil, a Lead Displacement Plate and Extension are bolted onto theshaft. Resuming torque on the assembled shaft advances the helicalplates and pulls the displacement plate downward, forcing soil outwardto create a cylindrical void around the shaft. From a reservoir at thesurface, a flowable grout immediately fills this void, surrounding andencapsulating the shaft. Additional extensions and displacement platesare added until the helical bearing plates reach competent load-bearingsoil. This displacement pile system does not require removing spoilsfrom the site.Benefits of this system include: Resistance to buckling in weak surface soils Stiffer pile (deflects less at a particular load) Additional corrosion protection in aggressive soils

Higher load capacities than ever now areachievable by the patented HELICAL PULLDOWN Micropiletechnology. It continues to overcome obstacles to traditionalfoundation methods for a growing number of applications.

    What is aHELICAL PULLDOWNMicropile?

  • Installing a (4) helix lead-section. Installing an extension withLead Displacement Plateand PVC grout reservoir.

    Installing additionalextensions through thePVC reservoir.

Cutting the extension to therequired elevation.

An excavator with torque motor installs a row of HELICALPULLDOWN Micropiles to support a new building.

Helical lead sections have been installed.Extensions with a Lead Displacement Plateare ready for installation with grout reservoir.

    Monitoring torque duringinstallation confirms bearingcapacity.

Pulling out the groutreservoir afterreaching thespecified torque.

A HELICAL PULLDOWNMicropile is a displacementpile that forces soil out aroundthe shaft. The void is filledwith grout.
