Publisher’s note: A new collection of Water Resources journals from Elsevier Christiane Barranguet Executive Publisher 2013 is the International Year of Water Cooperation, as declared by the United Nations, recognizing that prosperity — and the survival — of our society depend on the supply of water for human con- sumption, food production, industrial development and energy production. Access to potable water is also recognized as one of the grand challenges of the 21 st century and touches nearly every country on the planet in one form or another. Consequently, water resources research is now one of the fastest growing disciplines in the world. The solutions draw on many areas of science, technology and medicine, with researchers collaborating across disciplines and continents.
