Press Release Publisher takes story of ‘Mi Amigo’ WWll aircrew to schools across the world The story behind a WWll aircrew and a man who has tended their memorial for over six decades is set to be shared in schools across the world through resources created by Twinkl. The popular educational resource provider has created presentations, worksheets and a daily news story, designed by teachers for use in the classroom or at home. Tony Foulds, 82, has visited and looked after the Mi Amigo war memorial in Endcliffe Park in Sheffield since 1953.The memorial commemorates ten WWII airmen who were killed when they crash-landed in the park in 1944. The airmen were trying to fly a damaged B-17 Bomber plane, nicknamed ‘Mi Amigo’, back to its airbase in Northamptonshire. The aircrew, including the pilot Lt John Glennon Krieghauser, seem to have crash-landed to avoid houses and children playing in Endcliffe Park. This included Tony Foulds, who was 8-years old at the time and witnessed the incident. Tony has cared for the ‘Mi Amigo’ memorial for decades but his story has only recently become known after a chance meeting with BBC presenter Dan Walker at the park and subsequent news coverage. Jonathan Seaton, Founder and CEO of Twinkl, said: “We were really amazed by Tony’s dedication to the Mi Amigo war memorial and thought that the story would engage and interest children in the history and inspire them. “We went to visit Tony in the park and also invited him to see the resources as they were being made so that he could provide input and meet the team. “The resources can now be used by anyone anywhere in the world and we look forward to hearing back about how they are being used in schools.” 1 of 2 Friday 15th February 2019
