Principal’s report
Solid State Circus
Last Week our students were treated to an amazing
performance. The Solid State Circus troupe entertained
with juggling, balancing and acrobatics and lots of
comedy! The children were enthralled but were
definitely reminded not to try these stunts at school or
at home!
Circus performers in action – amazing!
Rhythm and Rail Fun
Mr Maxwell and I, along with several of our students
last week competed in the annual Licorice Factory
Challenge. With chocolate and licorice tower building,
chocolate ball pool and popcorn eating, it certainly
provided lots of hilarious entertainment!
Jake & Matilda put the finishing touches on their
chocolate & licorice tower.
Thank you to our captains and vice captains, Tahlia,
Jake, Matilda and Kye who presented a poem at the
Sunday church service.
Harmony Day
Next Monday 21 March is national Harmony Day. The
message of Harmony Day is everyone belongs. It is a
day to celebrate cultural diversity. It is also a day about
inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for
everyone. The message this year is our diversity is our
strength. We can do great things when we come
together. Throughout their library lessons next
Monday, all children will complete activities which
reflect these themes. As a special way of recognising
this day and coming together as one, all children are
invited to wear something orange (the harmony day
colour).
Riverina Choir
Congratulations to Sophia Cameron, Tenaya Gerhard
and Natalia Shimpf on their selection into this year’s
Riverina Choir! Selection into the Riverina Choir is hotly
contested, and this year many students from across the
Riverina auditioned. The girls will have a very busy year
of rehearsals and lots of performances at various
events throughout the year. Hopefully our school will
get the opportunity to hear the Riverina choir perform
later in the year when they tour the region.
Sophia, Natalia & Tenaya – Riverina Choir members!

Solid State Circus
As previously mentioned, our students were wowed by
this amazing trio. Even better was seeing our very own
Kiralee as part of the act!

Rhythm & Rail Challenge
Have you ever wanted to build a tower out of
chocolate? That’s exactly what several of our students,
Mrs Thurston and Mr Maxwell did last week as part of
the Licorice factory challenge. Our teams excelled on
this part of the challenge. Playing pool with chocolate
balls and eating popcorn as fast as you can proved to
be quite a challenge for some however!
Jake proved to be a bit of a pool shark!
Pony tails and popcorn don’t mix!
Tahlia & Maggie – a picture of tower-making
concentration!
Ryan (alias Hoover!) Crowder sucking up popcorn at top
speed!
Chew Mr Maxwell, chew!!
Riverina Swimmers
Congratulations to our swimming team, who travelled
to Albury last week to compete in the Riverina PSSA
Swimming carnival.
Our senior boys relay team: Ryley, Zach, Jake & Joel did
themselves & our school proud. So too, did our Junior
boys: Ryan, Bailey, Cooper & Tyler.

What’s coming up?
Athletics Carnival
Our school Athletics Carnival is being held on Friday 1
April. Each year Mr Jones and Mrs Commins take every
class for PD/H/PE, and during Term 1 their focus is on
athletics skills. Prior to the carnival, Mr Jones and Mrs
Commins hold trials at school for each field event for
the 8-12 year olds. Every child is taught the correct
technique for each field event. They are given a
practice and then have 3 throws/ jumps measured. The
10 longest/ highest throws/ jumps then progress to
the final on the actual athletics carnival day. Children
nominate themselves for the 200m and 800m. All
children run in their age race. Our K-2 children also run
their ’cross country’ as part of our carnival. Year 3-6
children will have their cross country next term.
Boys & Girls PSSA cricket matches
Both of our boys and girls cricket teams have
successfully made it into Round 2 of the PSSA
Knockout. The boys unfortunately had their game
washed out last Friday, but will play next Monday 21
March against Wagga Public School at Burns Park.
The girls will travel to Wagga next Tuesday 22 March
to play South Wagga Public School at Bolton Park.
Thank you to Mr Baldock for the huge amount of effort
put into training both teams. Best of luck to both
teams!
SRC Happenings
Our SRC are having a very busy term with lots of
fundraising events on the go. Just a reminder of what
they are up to:
5c challenge – each class has a jar for
collecting 5c coins, with a weekly ice block
prize going to the class that has raised the
most. Last week we managed to raise over
$200! With 3/4M the winning class.
Easter egg raffle – we are asking for donations
of Easter eggs which will be raffled off at our
Easter Fun day. Tickets are on sale every day
for $1. The more donations, the more prizes
we can give out!
Easter colouring competition – these are on
sale every day for 20c. The winning entries
from each stage will be announced at our
Easter Fun day.
Disco Fun – on Thursday 7 April the SRC will
be holding 2 discos. The K-2 disco will run
from 5:00 – 6:00 pm; the Year 3-6 disco will run
from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. The theme for the night is
‘Famous People’ where children are
encouraged to dress up as their favourite
famous person. Cost is $4 per student. All
families are asked to bring along a plate of
food to share.
Our School Vision
To instil in our students, through diverse,
innovative & quality educational experiences,
the knowledge and skills to become confident,
creative & highly successful learners and
respectful & responsible citizens.

NAPLAN 2016 Years 3 & 5 students
In Week 3 of Term 2 our Year 3 and 5 students will sit
the National Assessment Program – Literacy and
Numeracy (NAPLAN). An information brochure
will be sent home with all Year 3 and 5 children this
week. Any parents wishing to discuss any of this are
welcome to contact class teachers or Mrs Thurston.
Parent-Teacher Interviews
All parents should have received a note
outlining days/ times for interviews. Parents are
encouraged to meet with classroom teachers to
get an early indication of how their child is
progressing, the learning goals for their child
and any concerns they may have. If parents are
unable to make the times indicated, teachers are
more than happy to make an alternative time.
How2Learn Developing a Growth Mindset in our students
Lots of professional learning is continuing to occur this
year with our staff around the area of learning habits.
One of our key focuses at this point in time is
developing an understanding in our students that they
can either have a FIXED or GROWTH mindset.
We encourage all of our students to believe that they
have the ability to succeed – they need to put in the
effort, persevere, practise and not give up when the
going gets tough.
Behaviour Expectations
At Junee North we are proud learners
who are:
Respectful – we treat ourselves and each other with respect, show care and regard for
property
Responsible – we take responsibility for our learning and our actions. We own up to our
mistakes so we can learn from them.
Safe – we always take care and act in a safe
and appropriate manner.
