To curate the best content (local and global), we start by running roundtable discussion groups (RTDs) for face-to-face research with SAP customers for each community.
Each RTD includes 15 – 20 participants and runs for four hours where challenges, trends and technology
investment plans are discussed.
This unique process ensures pure and accurate research is generated through debate and discussion.
In August, 120+ SAP customers attended RTDs in Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland.
Thank you to the following Public Sector organisations for attending the RTDs:
• Australian Broadcasting Corporation
• Australian Department of Finance

TRANSFORMING THE TAXPAYER EXPERIENCE USING MACHINE LEARNING AND QUALTRICS
KATHERINE LOVE
Transformation Program Director – Queensland Treasury
Office of State Revenue
A good tax-paying experience is not something you often hear about. So, when in 2017, Queensland Treasury’s Office of State Revenue (OSR) out-lined their vision to do just that—improve the experience for taxpayers while delivering on their commitments to government—it was a massive undertaking, and unlike anything attempted before.
Fast forward 2.5 years and OSR are well on the way to creating next generation tax and revenue
management capabilities that are data-driven, digitally enabled and client centric. Join Transforma-
tion Program Director, Katherine Love, to find out how OSR have pushed the boundaries of data and
innovation to transform the way they operate and the services they provide.
Katherine will showcase how OSR have used SAP Leonardo Machine Learning, SAP Qualtrics, SAP
Data Hub, SAP Marketing Cloud and SAP Analytics Cloud to provide more personalised and proac-
tive services for taxpayers. OSR has successfully completed 36 digital initiatives already, with another
8 projects in flight. The result? A better experience for taxpayers, improved engagement with staff,
and stronger outcomes for the Queensland community.

DEFENCE’S ACCOUNTS PAYABLE REFORM JOURNEY
MELINDA GABRIEL
Assistant Secretary Financial Systems and Operations, Defence Finance Group
Department of Defence
In 2019, Defence implemented OpenText Vendor Invoice Management (VIM), replacing a 15-year-old poorly maintained invoice processing sys-tem. This was part of a significant finance reform journey in Defence.
In this session Melinda will cover off how Defence managed transitioning from their out-dated sys-
tems and processes in an environment that’s naturally resistant to change, whilst juggling products
approaching end of life all the while implementing an update to a 100,000+ user standard operating
environment. They got it done and boy was it fun!

SPEAKERS PUBLIC SECTOR PANEL
PREPARING FOR A SHARED SERVICES ENVIRONMENT
Federal Government has an appetite to standardise their sys-tems. The idea is to rationalise all their ERP implementations. The question is how does one prepare for this? Is it best to go to one system or to adopt a hub method where large depart-ments’ instances absorb and host related departments? It is critical to understand what they are going to lose and what they will gain when they go this route.
Join our panellists as they discuss and explore the factors driving the movement to
shared services and the challenges that organisations and agencies face when such
a step is taken. The conversation will focus on all aspects of the move from people, to
process and technology. It will look at what has worked and what hasn’t in the past.
• Rationalising ERP instances down to one/few system(s)?
• Preparing data and teams for a shared service environment
• Standardisation – How do we get there?
• Pre-empting what you are going to lose and what we are you going to gain from
the move

HOW FINANCE TEAMS ARE BECOMING THE NEW CHAMPION OF EMPLOYEE EXPERIENCE
PRANAY LODHIYA
Chief Financial Officer
Bureau of Meteorology
Change is driven to achieve a positive outcome. The Public sector in Aus-tralia have undertaken a goal to improve and align systems. In a world where organisations are looking for every possible market advantage, im-proving the employee experience can provide impressive results, this is the space we find ourselves in today.
According to a Gallup study, employers who focus on employee engagement experience 17% higher
productivity, 20% higher sales, and 21% higher profitability. But creating a great employee experi-
ence isn’t just an HR function. In fact, the Finance Team has a significant role to play in implementing
the technology and processes necessary to help employees focus on meaningful work instead of
paperwork.
Pranay was involved in transforming the Finance function and bringing together multiple systems
to enhance the employee experience. Join this session to hear how the Bureau of Meteorology fo-
cused on user experience as a key driver for achieving the visibility and compliance they needed to
better control costs, forecast cash flow and gain insights that help the bottom line.

DEVELOPING A PATH TO ORG CHART SUCCESS AT THE BUREAU OF METEOROLOGY
SIMONE KEENAN
General Manager Organisational Development
Bureau of Meteorology
Simone will show and provide an overview of the phases in the Bureau’s journey from manual org charts with poor quality data, to launching mul-tiple dynamic charts that are integrated with SAP.
The Bureau uses org.manager to provide staff with complete visibility across the organisation, in-
cluding reporting lines, staff photos, when staff are on leave, First Aid Officers and much more.
The new org chart has delighted and connected staff, and additional charts provide managers with
quick and easy access to critical HR information. This is a ‘good news’ story of what can be achieved
with some commitment to data cleansing, and a vision to aligning integrated platforms for the de-
livery of accurate data.

SPEAKERS CHANGE AND TRANSFORMATION
GET PREPARED FOR SUCCESSFUL DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION AND SIGNIFICANT ORGANISATIONAL CHANGE
JAMES CARLOPIO
Consultant
JMJ
Research consistently indicates that between 50% and 80% of ERP imple-mentations, organisational re-engineering (BPR) and change efforts fail to deliver promised benefits.
• Why does this consistently continue to happen?
• What are the major issues leading to failure?
• What are the key factors that truly make a difference toward success?
While we must get the “technical” installation issues correct when implementing an ERP system,
this is not a sufficient condition to ensure a successful implementation. Renowned Transformational
Change expert, James Carlopio, will distinguish implementation from installation and will help you
identify the required structural and cultural changes you’ll need to make in your organisation’s social
systems and within individuals, in order to achieve digital transformation.
James has worked on projects for Rio Tinto, IBM, Australian Federal Police, the ABC, Telstra, Op-
tus, SAP, AMP, NRMA, CBA, Australian Defense Industries and General Motors in the areas of organ-
isational change, strategy design and implementation, innovation and new technology, applying
design principles, personal change and influence, organisational and management development,
and more recently on cultural cyber security. His education has focused on psychology with a B.A.
(Springfield, MA.), an M.A. (University of Manitoba, Canada) and a Ph. D. in Applied and Organisation-
al Psychology (Old Dominion, Virginia).

SPEAKERS CHANGE AND TRANSFORMATION
DRIVING ADOPTION, ACCEPTANCE AND PRODUCTIVITY IN THE WORLD OF SYSTEM TRANSFORMATION
MATTHEW KENT
Chief Financial Officer
GPC
In the coming years SAP customers are going to need to implement SAP S/4HANA. This can be seen as a systems change but even more so, it’s a Mindshift change.
This new solution may cause disruptions, constraints and be a new way of doing things which will
inevitably cause negative sentiment and lower employee morale. As leaders in our businesses, it’s
our job to educate and inspire the workforce to lead a successful implementation. This can be solved
though a simple reorientation of the status quo and challenging why ‘that was the normal’ to begin
with.
Matthew will take you through how he led the change management of a global role out and won
over the hearts and mind of Finance and beyond through an emphasis on training and communica-
tion. Whether you’re from IT, Finance or Operations, the principles are the same. Achieving the right
change management practices can be the difference between success and failure.

IS YOUR FINANCE TEAM DUE FOR A TUNE-UP? LET’S TALK BUSINESS TRANSFORMATION
FRANK FLORIAN (USA)
Business Transformation & Innovation – Finance
Independent
IT transformation projects are often guided by business but lead by IT. This can create a misalignment of value for effort, and frustration soon creeps in. Creating working groups that represent the business (to evaluate pro-cess requirements) as well as technologists (to manage constraints and capabilities) creates a streamlined approach to development.
So how do you manage a transformation project when teams’ expectations need to be managed,
and corporate strategies need to be met? In this presentation Frank uncovers best practices for
developing team dynamics, maximizing project value and meeting the targeted end state for a
fast ROI.

SAP Centre of Excellence for General Motors. He will share his views and his own experience on what
is required to drive a major transformational SAP S/4 HANA project.
What is the effort and time required? Do I need to do business process reengineering? Or is it a tech-
nical lift and shift? What is the best way to evaluate impact and options for moving to SAP S/4HANA?
• How Finance could change with digitalization – the reality as opposed to the pitch
• Getting ready for a massive migration including operational alignment
• Decommissioning your ERP by harmonizing processes and data

IMPLEMENTING S/4HANA PUBLIC CLOUD – LEARNINGS FROM MCGRATHNICOL
PAUL SWEENEY
Chief Operating Officer
McGrathNicol
Gartner research suggests that up to 75% of ERP implementations fail, and predicts that up to 90% of cloud ERP implementations will meet the same fate as they result in higher costs, greater complexity and failed integrations.
McGrathNicol was one of the first Australian businesses to implement S/4HANA public cloud, SAP’s
true SaaS ERP model. Although the journey wasn’t perfect, and there’s further work to do, early days
suggest the implementation has successfully delivered on our core objectives.
In this presentation Paul will tackle the questions of:
1. Why they chose the public cloud
2. Why they chose SAP
3. Risks in going early
4. Getting the people element right

SPEAKERS AUTOMATION
CENTRALISE, STANDARDISE AND AUTOMATE FINANCE ACTIVITIES USING THE BEST TECH IN THE MARKET
CATHERINE PHAN
Senior Manager – Accounting Services
Australia Post
When Catherine was appointed to lead the General Accounting function at Post, her initial thought was “How do I transform the month end pro-cess using the best technology in the market to deliver a saving of $1M?” Using Lean Six Sigma, the problem statement for her transformation proj-ect would be:
• 800 balance sheet accounts were performed by 5 different teams across 5 different locations
• 30% of manual journal submitted to General Accounting team for uploading to SAP often had
errors and required correction.
It was critical to centralise the like activities in the same area and restructure the team. This would
provide immediate efficiency by reducing the number of managers across various locations. Next
step was to standardise the process so they could automate. After thorough research, it was decided
to use Blackline for reconciliation process and RPA (Robotics Process Automation) for uploading and
validating manual journals.

SPEAKERS AUTOMATION
HOW TO AUTOMATE AND OPTIMISE YOUR FINANCIAL SYSTEM
DR. NICHOLAS NICOLOUDIS
Machine Learning Principal (APJ), Innovation Factory
SAP Australia
A recent study from McKinsey identifies that up to 70% of tasks in finance are potentially ‘automate-able’ with next-generation technologies. This will mean that a lot of the tasks we spend our time on today as knowledge workers will be accelerated by automation tools. We’ll have more time to advise the business on strategy and growth plans – and we’ll hopefully spend less time trying to pull relevant reports out of our ERP systems.
In this presentation Nic will show you the Business Technology Platform and the services that
SAP have developed to provide customers insight into automating and optimising their financial
systems.

SPEAKERS INTEGRATION
DISCOVER THE INTEGRATION DNA OF THE INTELLIGENT SUITE FROM SAP
SINDHU GANGADHARAN (IND)
Senior Vice President and Managing Director
SAP Labs India
Come listen to SAP’s Integration Thought Leader and Head of SAP Labs India, Sindhu Gangadharan as she explains how SAP aims to deliver an overall experience across the enterprise for the intelligent suite that is greater than the sum of its parts.
Accordingly, SAP offers technologies for integrating applications on all levels, such as user experi-
ence, data, processes, and more. Along the journey from on premise–centric application landscapes
toward hybrid and cloud environments, customers need to revisit their integration solution strategy.
Modern enterprises require a hybrid integration platform supporting cloud, hybrid, and on-premise
integration use cases. Furthermore, new concepts are applied for enabling true out-of-the box inte-

SUCCESSFUL INTEGRATION – PUT THE CORE OF YOUR BUSINESS IN THE HANDS OF YOUR USERS
BRIGITTE COLOMBO
Chief Information Officer
Powerco (NZ)
Powerco is NZ’s second largest electricity and gas distribution business. Getting accurate information on the location and condition of assets to and from the field is key to keeping the lights on and gas flowing. Despite spending millions on maintaining asset information in the company’s geo-graphic information system (GIS), the data was not widely used or trusted.
In 2019 Powerco implemented the first phase of its ERP and Integration strategies. This introduced
a new business foundation based on S/4 HANA and stitched it into the existing application fabric
redefining core business processes and data flows using a hybrid integration approach. By “getting
good at” integration, alongside new mobility tools, they have put location and asset information in
the hands of every employee and contractor, improving safety and efficiency. Powerco continue to
invest in their integration capability to extract more value from their ERP investment and also to
enable new solutions and partnerships.

In this session we will discuss the architecture and security design of Ariba, IBP, Hybris Marketing,
and other applications supported with the Identity Authentication Service for SAP Cloud Platform.
We will compare the new cloud security designs with legacy ECC. Discuss using an alternative Iden-
