Dear Parents and Carers

Science Day

On Wednesday of this week we will be holding our Science Day. Mrs Glendinning has organised some

very exciting activities with the generous support of a number of our parents.

Dr Hogg will be bringing in a wide assortment of bones from the museum for our students to

examine and has organised for some of her PhD students to work with our Stage 3 students to extract

DNA from strawberries, always a highlight of our Science Day. Dr Tran- Dinh will introduce our students

to the amazing world of micro-organisms and Mr Spiers will be providing our students with the

opportunity to work with solar powered cars. If the weather is clear Dr Bannister will bring a very

powerful telescope from the university to allow our students the opportunity to discover some exciting

facts about our solar system. It certainly looks like a day not to be missed!

Ryde Eisteddfod

Truscott Street was very well represented at the Ryde Music Eisteddfod last Tuesday. Our Concert band,

Training Band and our Guitar Group all gained a Third Place and Highly Commended award. They are

very deserving of our congratulations on this wonderful achievement as the standard of the

performances on the day was exceptional. Nathanael D. Year 4 was our representative in the guitar

solo section. Nathanael consistently impresses us during assembly performances with his outstanding

talent. All that hard work and talent was on show at the Ryde Eisteddfod where he received First Place.

Congratulations Nathanael! A huge thanks to Masako Dunn and Amanda Thomas who organised the day

and to Mr Christian for not only supplying a bus for our students but also for giving his time to drive

them to and from the venue.

Zone Carnival

The Zone Athletics carnival will be held tomorrow at Sydney Olympic Park. Please remember that the

bus leaves school at 8:15 am. I am sure our competitors will represent our school very well indeed both

as competitors and spectators. Our thanks to Mrs Sarti and Miss Fenech for all the effort they have put

into the organisation of this event for the benefit of our students.

Cyber Safety Presentation

A reminder that Senior Constable Deb Crystal will be giving a presentation on cyber safety on

Wednesday evening 5th September at 7pm. Deb has presented to our parents before and is always both

entertaining and informative. Cyber safety is often a huge concern to parents in this ever changing

technological world and Deb has an impressive depth of knowledge in this area which she willingly

shares. It will be held in either the library or the school hall dependent on the numbers attending.

Enrolments 2019

Enrolments are now being taken for Kindergarten 2019. Children who will be turning 5 years old on or

before 31st July, 2019 are eligible for enrolment. If you are intending to enrol your child at Truscott

Street next year could you please contact the office for an enrolment form.

Athletics Carnival

We were very lucky to have sunny winter’s day for our carnival and our first day back at school. The year 6 tug of war was won by Ryrie. By far the most important event of the day was the teachers against year 6 tug of war. It was a close battle but this year the teachers won. Thanks to parents who helped us out to even up the teams. One record was broken on the day.

Bede D broke his brother’s (Loki) 8 year boys 100m race record from 2014, running 15.18 sec The winning house for the carnival was Ryrie followed by Truscott, Morshead and then Edmondson. A huge thank you to Mrs Jurd and Mr Mark for a delicious sausage sizzle. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped out at the athletics carnival. Students who qualify to go to the Zone Athletics Carnival on the Tuesday 21st August 2018 include

1st, 2nd and 3rd in 100m age races for 8 , 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 year olds

1st and 2nd in 200m

1st in 800m (Plus up to 2 runners under the qualifying time)

1st for all field events. (There is a qualifying height for high jump to attend zone.)

Students will be issued with a note to confirm their selection.
