Have your say now Time is running out for residents to have a direct say on how our neighbourhood will be governed. The choice is between a stand-alone Ryde local Council, a mega-conglomerate that splits Ryde to the East and West, or a Joint Regional Authority arrangement that maintains local representation and identity but provides for sub-regional agreement on planning and infrastructure among other things. As a resident or business owner, you have the most contact with your local Council, but if the proposed amalgamations go ahead, your voice will be lost. Many services such as immunisation, libraries, family support and funding for local sports clubs and community initiatives, will disappear or diminish over time. The ‘local’ will definitely go out of local government. You can tell the State Government directly what you think about the proposed takeover of the City of Ryde that will see us disappear and become just a part of one or two mega Councils. But you have to act in the next few days! You can ‘have your say’ by lodging a submission to the Fit for the Future Inquiry in support of Ryde’s response which recommends we either stand-alone and form a partnership with Hunter’s Hill and Lane Cove Councils under a Joint Regional Authority (JRA) as a superior alternative to a forced amalgamation or splitting of Ryde. To make it easier, we have developed sample letters which you can use to lodge a submission. You can download a sample letter or write your own submission. Submissions close on Sunday 5 July. All of the details can be found at www.ryde.nsw.gov.au/inquiry To read more about our superior alternative of a Joint Regional Authority go to www.ryde.gov.au/fitforthefuture Netball Championships Working in partnership with our local sporting organisations has resulted in the development of several top class facilities including the recent $80,000 upgrade of the Netball Complex at Meadowbank Park. We have developed a collaborative model of a Joint Regional Authority (JRA) to address the NSW Government’s Fit for the Future proposal. The JRA will centralise key functions across the three council areas, including subregional planning, procurement, infrastructure delivery and other services where economies of scale exist.
