Select the network file (*.inpx) along with the other required files (i.e. signal file,

background file, layout file etc.) and put those into a new folder, i.e.

Example_ScenarioManagement. (See figure)

If you are not copying the files into a new folder, the original network file (*.inpx) will be

always opening in the Scenario management. As a result, you might lose the original

version of your network file.

Please make a copy of your network file in another folder in order to avoid this issue.

We are going to additionally read another file to our Base network in the third modification.

You can find a prepared file named “PARKING_AREA.INPX” in the following directory:“…\PTV Vissim - Scenario Management\

1_Example_Mini\Example_ScenarioManagement”.

PTV GROUP Training material

1) From menu FILE, navigate to READ ADDITIONALLY and select NETWORK…

2) Select PARKING_AREA.INPX from the SELECT FILE TO READ ADDITIONALLY dialog

box and click on OPEN.

3) It will take few seconds to read the additional file into our Base network.

Modification 3

PTV GROUP Training material

• Links

• Parking Lots

• Reduced Speed Areas

• Conflict Areas

• Parking Routing Decisions

3) Click on OK

4) It will take few seconds to insert the new objects in the existing base network.

5) The “Parking Area” has been added to the northern part of our network.

Page 34: PTV Vissim - Scenario-management

Modification 3

PTV GROUP Training material

34

1) Connect Link 16: South Bound, 1L with the parking area

2) Create an entering and an exiting connector to the parking area (see figure

above)

3) Define appropriate spline points for the connectors.

Page 35: PTV Vissim - Scenario-management

Modification 3

PTV GROUP Training material

1) Select VEHICLE ROUTES from the Network Objects window

2) Change the position of the Parking Routing Decision: 1 to the northern part of

Link 16

3) Select YES TO ALL to complete the parking routes.

Page 36: PTV Vissim - Scenario-management

Modification 3

PTV GROUP Training material

36

1) Add a REDUCED SPEED AREA on the entering connector to the parking area

and define 25: 25 km/h as the desired speed distribution.

2) Add one DESIRED SPEED DECISION on the entering connector (on the middle of

the Reduced Speed Area added on step 1). The Desired Speed distribution

will be again 25 km/h, so that vehicles can have lower desired speed in the

parking area than usual (50 km/h).

3) One more DESIRED SPEED DECISION should be added on the exiting connector

and the desired speed distribution will be 50 km/h, so that vehicles can have

higher speed while exiting the parking area.

4) Solve the CONFLICT AREAS for both entering and exiting connector to and from

the parking area. As you can see on the given figure, Undetermined has been

selected for the branching conflict and the through traffic coming from North

will have priority over the exiting traffic from the parking area.

5) Save the modification.

6) Add the fifth scenario named as “SCJ + Parking”.

7) This scenario depends on:

1. Signal Controlled Junction and

3. Parking Area

8) Add a new scenario 6: “Right of Way + Parking”.

9) Our sixth scenario depends on:

2. Roundabout and

3. Parking Area

Page 39: PTV Vissim - Scenario-management

Now you can open the scenarios 4 to 6: e.g. Right of Way + Parking will look like this:

Hint for scenario 6:

Roundabout + Parking, you will get a few warning messages as some of the conflict areas

do not exist on the scenario.
