PT BUTON ASPHALT INDONESIA (BAI)
Prominent Producer of Natural Asphalt
The “Asbuton” (Buton Asphalt)The “Asbuton” (Buton Asphalt)Asbuton is the name of ROCK ASPHALT from BUTON ISLAND South East Sulawesi, Indonesia.
• Naturally occurred from the ground • Consist of high quality natural bitumen (20%) and
limestone (80%)• Two type of Asbuton : Kabungka (Hard) and Lawele (Soft)

Improving Bitumen Quality with AsbutonImproving Bitumen Quality with Asbuton
Research shows that the addition of ASBUTON into Conventional Asphalt or Oil Asphalt mixture can highly improve the bitumen quality
The improved properties are:• Increased Softening Point• Improved Adhesion

Role of Asbuton Mineral in Asphalt MixtureRole of Asbuton Mineral in Asphalt Mixture
Mineral asbuton, which mostly consist of LIMESTONE, will act as a FILLER.Filler’s roles in Asphalt Mixture:• As an binder extenderbinder extender• To make the binder more stiff
Stiffer Binder in turn will make the mixture more resistance to permanent deformation
Recent test on SUPERPAVE (West Track Full Scale Test) shows that amount filler is important for coarse mix. Lack of filler will cause premature rutting to Coarse Mix.

Application of BRAApplication of BRA
BRA is used in many asphalt mixture types such as:-Asphalt Concrete-Hot Rolled Sheet-Stone Mastic Asphalt
Positioned as a Wearing Course, Binder Course or Asphalt Base Course
Application’s dose of BRA is 2% to 10%
For Hot Mix or even Cold Mix (using cutback)
Mixture Design: No change as conventional asphalt concrete
