OPERATING FIELDWith its new hydraulic PT 350 press, Bercoadds an updated and powerful working instru-ment to its already well-known range ofmachines and equipment used in the trackedvehicles maintenance sector. Due to its capacity and size, this model allowsassembling and disassembling operations tobe carried out safely and efficiently, on allchains up to a maximum inside length ofchain link of 350 mm. Such a range includesthe largest ones among modern tracked vehi-cles: Komatsu PC1000-2, Orenstein & KoppelRH90C and RH120C, Caterpillar D11 andothers.In line with the Berco tradition, the performan-ce and reliability of the new PT 350 presshave been fully tested in the productiondepartments of our plants, under the mostsevere of conditions for volume and continuosworkload.

STRUCTUREDuring the design phase, we have widelyused the new computer-aided technologies,such as the structural analysis with the finiteelements method, so that to optimize the sizeof the machine.The structure, for instance, made with electri-cally welded plates, has been analysed interms of plate thickness (see figure 1), thusobtaining a remarkable reduction of mechani-cal stresses and, as a consequence, of defor-mations when performing heavy duty opera-tions.An innovative design (so called “tandem desi-gn”) has been implemented for each one ofthe two main cylinders, with an horizontal andopposed layout. Considering the same maximum availablethrust, this solution allowes smaller diameterscylinders, thus reducing space and stresses.

OPERATING SYSTEMThe working procedure is the same asfor model PT 200, widely known andused by this sector’s users thanks to itsreliability.An hydraulic winch pulls the chain alongthe roller conveyor; the first part of theroller conveyor (which is an integral partof the press and whose motor is hydrau-lically-operated) is used to move thechain in both directions; it is also usedfor the correct lenghtwise positioning inrelation to the assembling and disas-sembling plates and to the slide (mova-ble rest insert). The slide, through anhydraulic cylinder, is vertically moved inthe two possible positions: high (referen-ce and operating position) and low (thusenabling the chain horizontal move-ments). The equipment, for the assem-bling and disassembling phases, consi-sts of a pair of plates. Each plate is com-posed by two pushers (one for the pinside and for thethe other one bushingside).

SPECIAL FITTINGSThe PT 350 press is supplied completewith the required protection equipmentfor the operating area which includes asliding door with wide LEXAN windows(fully complying with the Europeansafety standards - EC).When the protection devices are open,only positioning movements are allowed.Togheter with the sliding protection, themachine can also be supplied with achain blocking device.It makes sure that the part of chain alongwhich you are operating is kept in theproper position. This device is pneuma-tically operated, both automatically(when closing the protection device),and manually with a selecting mechani-sm.

HYDRAULIC BOX AND CONTROLSThis press is completely hydraulically-controlled by means of a separatehydraulic box located in the back of themachine. The box is connected to themachine through flexible hoses (seefigure 2). The controls for the activation of theworking movements are “electric mani-pulator” low voltage type. Their size issuitable to make their use easy also foroperators using working gloves. Theirlocation has been studied carefully basedon ergonomic evaluations in order to mini-mize the movements for a normal opera-tion.On the front side of the machine, in aneasily accessible place for the operator,a manually-operated valve (see figure 3)for the adjustement of the maximumhydraulic pressure level togheter withthe relevant control pressure gauge,
