What is a psychic

A psychic is a person who claims to have an ability to perceive information hidden from the normal senses through extrasensory perception enabling them to influence the world physically using psychokinetic powers.

The word psychic is derived from the Greek word psychikos ("of the mind" or "mental") and refers in part to the human mind or psyche (ex. "psychic turmoil"). The Greek word also means "soul". In Greek mythology, the maiden Psyche was the deification of the human soul. The word derivation of the Latin psȳchē is from the Greek psȳchḗ, literally, breath, derivative of psȳ<chein, to breathe, blow, hence, live. French astronomer and spiritualist Camille Flammarion is credited as having first used the word psychic, while it was later introduced to the English language by Edward William Cox in the 1870s.

A psychic reading is to discern information through the use of heightened perceptive abilities; or natural extensions of the basic human senses of sight, sound, touch, taste and instinct. These natural extensions are claimed to be clairvoyance (vision), clairsentinece (feeling), Claircognisance (factual knowing) and Clairaudience (hearing)

There are many types of psychic readings practiced. Although psychic readings might not incorporate the use of any tools, a professional psychic may have one or more specialized areas of expertise. Some of the more common readings include Tarot reading, email psychic reading, palm reading, psychometry, aura readings, or astrological readings.

Astrology readings are a form of divination based on alignments of the sun, moon, planets and fixed stars. Astrology is an ancient practice and pre-dates many scientific methods of astral observation. Astrology does not require psychic ability. Aura readings involve the observation and interpretation of auras. The aura is a field of subtle, luminous radiation supposedly surrounding a person.

considered a form of channeling.● Clairvoyance, second sight - Perception outside the known human senses.● Death-warning - A vision of a living person prior to his or her death.

● Divination - Gaining insight into a situation, most commonly through a ritual.● Dowsing - Ability to locate objects, usually through the use of a focus.● Energy medicine - Healing by channeling a form of energy.● Faith healing - Diagnosing and/or curing diseases using religious devotion● Mediumship or channeling – Communicating with spirits.● Precognition, premonition and precognitive dreams - Perception of events before they happen.● Psychic surgery - Removal of diseased body tissue via an incision that heals immediately

afterwards.● Psychokinesis or telekinesis - The ability to manipulate matter by the power of thought.● Psychometry or psychoscopy - Obtaining information about a person or object, usually by

touching or concentrating on the object or a related object.● Pyrokinesis - Manipulation of fire.● Remote viewing - Gathering of information at a distance.● Retrocognition - Perception of past events.● Scrying - Use of an item to view events at a distance and/or in the future.● Telepathy - Transfer of thoughts or emotions in either direction.● Transvection - Bodily levitation or flying.
