What are some techniques or research methods used to examine the link between the brain and

behavior? What are some findings in behavioral neuroscience / physiological psychology that

can result or have resulted from these techniques or research methods?

There are many research methods used for determining the relationship between the brain

and behavior. There are three tools that are mainly used

computerized tomography, magneticresonance imaging, and positron emission tomography. The computerized tomography, or CT

scan, uses an x-ray to view the cross-sectional area of a body area, in this case the brain. The

magnetic resonance imaging, or MRI, uses radio waves to generate signals that are

mathematically modeled and combined to show slices of human tissue. The positron emission

tomography, PET, uses a chemical known as FGD which allows for a chemical mapping of the

brain. All of these three tools are effective in determining the relationship of the brain and

behavior. These technological tools can be used to see which parts of the brain are active during

certain behavioral responses. The MRI has allowed medical practitioners to determine the causes

for many behavioral and neurological problems including hearing loss, vision problems, brain

    tumors, multiple sclerosis, etc.
