A History of Excellence
Foundedin1917,JudgeBakerChildren’sCenterisaHarvardMedicalSchoolaffiliatewithprovenleadershipinchildren’smentalhealth.Committedtobridgingthecurrentgapbetweenresearchandpractice,JudgeBakerintegratesresearch,professionaltraininganddirectservice.Inadditiontoitsresearchportfolio,JBCCoperatesprogramsinspecialeducation,outpatientmentalhealth,communityandschoolconsultation,specializedsummertreatment,andchildwelfarepractice-allwiththegoalofhelpingchildrenandfamiliescharttheirownbestcoursetogrowandthrive.
TheCenterforEffectiveChildTherapyfocusesoncarethatworksforchildrenusingevidence-basedpracticessuchascognitivebehavioraltherapy(CBT).Thismeansthatwehelpchildrenandfamiliesusingeffective,sustainabletreatmentsthathavewithstoodrigorousclinicaltesting.Wemeasureandtrackresultstoholdourselvesaccountabletochildrenandfamilies.Ourfocusondataandquantifiablemeasuresgivesusuniqueinsightintothebestwaystohelpchildrenandfamiliesfind–andstayon–thebestcourseforthem.

Effective Mental Health Services
TheCenterforEffectiveChildTherapyatJudgeBakerprovidesmentalhealthassessmentsandfocusedshort-termtreatmentsforchildrenandtheirfamilies.Weuseonly“evidence-basedtreatments,”suchascognitivebehavioraltherapy(CBT),thathavebeenscientificallyproventowork.AtCECT,wecontinuallymonitoryourchild’sprogressinordertoindividualizetreatmentandmaximizegains.
Wedothisbybothusingprovenassessmenttoolsandlisteningcloselytothechildrenandfamiliesweworkwith,ensuringthateveryonetakesanactivepartingoal-settingandtreatment.Thesecarefulassessmentshelpusgofarbeyondachild’sdiagnosis;wecanfocusonwhatthechildandfamilyhopetochange.
Oneofourprimarygoalsistohelpchildrendevelopresiliency–aninternalsenseofstabilitythatallowsthemtofacethechallengesofdailylife.It’sthesenseofempowermentchildrenhavewhentheyrealizetheyhavecontrolovertheirfeelingsandbehavior,andenhancestheirabilitytogrowandthrive.
