Principal’s Report

As the term moves into its third week, I wish to remind stage 4 and 5 students and parents that it is only a cou-ple of weeks to their mid-year exams. Stage 4 exams are on in week 5 and stage 5 exams in week 6. Students need to find out the format of their exam in each subject and thoroughly revise their work. Any concepts of which they are unsure must be referred to their teacher for further clarification.

It is vital that students attend school if they wish to achieve their potential. If a student is away one day per week, it equals forty days per year, which is greater than two and a half years over their thirteenth year at school. It is equivalent to finishing half way through year 10, with the expectation that they have achieved similar outcomes to a student completing Year 12. It just does not happen.

The Parent Teacher evening is on this Wednesday, 21st May, between 4 and 6 p.m. All students will be issued with booking sheets on Monday so that parents do not have excessive time waiting to see a teacher. I strongly encourage all parents to attend. Years 11 and 12 re-ports will be issued at the Parent Teacher evening. School Captains Georga and Ryan at Government House

The Seniors went on an excursion to Sydney last week, and from what I have heard, it went very well. Thanks must go to Mr Ellevsen, Mr Catt and Mrs Grellman for organising the excursion and being prepared to be on duty for the whole week.

The open girl’s soccer side continued on its winning way, with a convincing victory over Coonamble. Congratula-tions must go to the side for their individual and teamwork skills, determination and sportsmanship.

Sport Report – May

Open Girls Soccer Vs Coonabarabran – 9th May

With a slightly different team compared to last match, Wee Waa started fast controlling the early possession.

Teagan Conomos scored after a few minutes following a long range effort down the right side. Tayla Gilmore scored shortly after to give Wee Waa a 2-0 lead. The possession ebbed and flowed with Wee Waa doing well in the backs. Teagan Conomos scored her second goal after 20 minutes and this again was followed by Tayla Gilmore scoring shortly after, giving Wee Waa a 4-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Wee Waa tried many positional changes and tried some different patterns of play. The girls adjusted well, considering many of them hadn’t played in the positions they were given. Coonabarabran continued to add pressure on the different set-up and were awarded a penalty late in the game. Coona converted this chance giving a final score of 4-1 to Wee Waa.

All the girls need to be commended for the spirit and teamwork, especially in the face of adversity of being tried in different positions, with particular mention to Amelia Cruickshank, Rachel Tompkins, Valerie Booby and Olivia Gligorevic.

Lawn Bowls Vs Walgett Community College - 6th May

Wee Waa HS took on Walgett at Wee Waa Bowling club in the 3rd round of the NW knockout. Wee Waa took a solid advantage early, leading by 10 shots after 5 ends. The game settled for the next few ends with some tight scoring by both teams. Wee Waa took control again after the 11th end scoring 7 shots and ran out eventual winners (16 ends) 32-8. The standout on the day was skipper Sam Sadler who came up with many clutch and pressure shots to steal the ends from Walgett.

Open Girls Touch Football Vs Coonamble – 2nd May

Wee Waa played host to Coonamble high school in the 2nd round of the NW touch knock out following a forfeit from Walgett CC. The girls started well considering not having many opportunities to train together as a full side due to their many commitments. Wee Waa opened the scoring through Libby Dickinson after a few minutes, with Libby actually scoring the first 3 tries of the match. Coonamble began to find their way in the match, however, Wee Waa held them at bay, taking a 5-0 halftime lead.

In the second half, Wee Waa again began strongly, with Valerie Booby, charging through a gap to open the scoring. Wee Waa again controlled possession and the scoreboard, scoring 4 more tries and only allowing one, with a 10-1 final score.

The girls played great as a team, especially those girls who hadn’t played touch football before. Try scorers on the day were Libby Dickinson (3), Izabela Gligorevic (2), Teagan Conomos (2), Abby Downes (1), Valerie Booby (1) and Tayla Gilmore (1).

Reforms to P & C Federation

The NSW Parliament has introduced legislation to reform the NSW Federation of Parent and Citizens Association, which has suspended operation pending Supreme Court action. While these reforms will not affect the day to day operation of individual school P& C’s, they will introduce a new executive structure which will ensure the federation operates as a modern and representative body on behalf of school P & C Associations.

Each school's P& C Association will be asked to vote for councillors and delegates who will represent their electorate at the Federation’s Annual General Meeting and councillors who will serve on the Federation’s Board of Management.
