OLD FASHIONED COCKTAIL CLUB (NEW)During the prohibition era barkeeps had limited access to good booze, so they used sweeteners and juices to cover up the taste of the rough hooch. Luckily today we have experts from Guffle Bar who have developed the art of creating colourful concoctions that offer glamour and above all, good taste. HIGH SOCIETY SOIREE (NEW)In the 1930s extravagant soirees were a way for celebrities, socialites or aristocrats to escape the dreary realities of life. We are recreating this kind of soiree with a lavish celebration of everything Art Deco: red carpet, bubbles and canapés on arrival, top jazz group Bella Donna and the Bandits playing throughout the evening, a dance floor, roulette tables, finger food later in the evening and all set in the backrop of the gorgeous Gatsby Rooms. CURATOR’S FLOOR TALK - HE MANU TIORIORI - SONGBIRDS (NEW)Join curator, Charles Ropitini, for a special floortalk on Maori jazz bands and waiata of the 1930’s portrayed through the exhibition He Manu Tioriori – 100 Years of Ngati Kahungunu Music. The interwar years saw a proliferation of Maori jazz bands across the tribe of Ngati Kahungunu where long summer evenings were spent under a blue moon and starry skies dancing, singing and making music after a hard day’s work in the fields and orchards. Charles will sing you through the exhibition and share stories of a days-gone-by in the villages of Ngati Kahungunu. This will be directly followed by Vintage Car Rides and the Fashion Flaunt. FASHION FLAUNT (FREE)Get out those classy clothes and enter fun that is the Fashion Flaunt. With numerous competitions and great prizes it’s the perfect way to spend an hour of your afternoon showing off your Art Deco best. HAWKE’S BAY JAZZ CLUB (NEW)The Wellington City Shake-‘Em-On-Downers, the Capital’s most danceable yet offbeat New Orleans-style swing septet, have performed on stages throughout the country since their formation as a busking quartet of young musicians with questionable haircuts in 2011.
