CRITICS ATTACK THE NEW DEAL

1934: Asked Americans in a fi reside chat, “the plain facts of your individual situations. Are you better off than you were last year?”

People answer a resounding “YES” by electing a large number of Democrats in both the House and the Senate.

FDR’S RESPONSE

Strike down the National Industrial Recovery Act. Ruled that it violated the

separation of powers by giving the President power to regulate business rather than Congress.

Strike down the Agricultural Adjustment Act. Regulating Agricultural

production IS NOT the federal government’s job.
