The Residential Treatment Program consists of four, 10-bed living units operating on a therapeutic milieu model. The program provides 24-hour care through an interdisciplinary team for children 9-21 years old whose emotional, behavioral, sexual or social dysfunction requires highly structured care. The Group Home program provides 24-hour highly structured milieu-based services in a normalized community setting to male youth 14-21 years of age. Treatment is oriented toward an ultimate return of youth to their foster homes, foster care (DCFS wards only), adult placements or independent living.

Services support families who have children at risk of being placed in out-of-home care and families who have foster children in their homes who are experiencing difficulties. Also provided are various groups that support positive parenting and communication skills.

Offers community-based and home-based counseling and support services to children and adolescents within the Tri-County area who are 20 years of age and younger and are experiencing behavioral and emotional challenges as well as the families of the individuals.

SUPERVISED INDEPENDENT LIVING FOSTER CARE CASEWORK Director: Amy Dennison YOUTH SERVICES Director: Jeff Campbell

The Supervised Independent Living Program provides supervised living to male and female youth 17 to 21 years old. Eligibility criteria include youth having an IQ of 70 or above; emotional disturbance or acting-out behavior that does not preclude living in a community-based facility; have only moderate difficulties in maintaining relation-ships in the spheres of school, work and family; and have the desire and motivation to live independently.

Program services include: preparation for adult living, individual and group counseling, life skills training, casework, health care, crisis intervention, employment counseling, academic counseling, job coaching, independent living skills and community networking.

Provides assessment, counseling, psychiatric interventions, case management, nursing services, linkage to community resources and educational coordination for youth ages birth to 21 years old who have been removed from their home due to abuse or neglect. Services are provided in an attempt to create permanency for the youth which includes returning home to the biological family, or when necessary adoption or subsidized guardianship within another home in the community.

Youth Development Services works to divert youth from the child welfare and juvenile justice systems through the provision of family preservation services. Ages range from 10-21.

TRANSITIONAL LIVING PHASE/INDEPENDENT LIVING OPPORTUNITIES GOOD BEGINNINGS Director: Vikki Thompson KIEFER SCHOOL Director: Gwynetta Bullock

Daily workshops teach the initial and more intense independent living and pro-social skills. Youth are provided with weekly individual and group clinical sessions. In this phase, youth share a house with other residents. 24-hour supervision is provided. Through daily life skills groups, youth are provided with the vocational skills neces-sary to seek and maintain employment, budgeting, meal planning, accessing public transportation and increasing knowledge of community resources. Financial support is given in the areas of food, clothing, allowance and transportation.

Good Beginnings offers coordinated prenatal services, parent education, support and referral services to first-time, at-risk mothers (primarily teens through mid 20s) in Peoria and Tazewell Counties. Services are offered for Spanish-speaking participants also.

Kiefer School is an NCA-accredited, ISBE-approved private school for children and youth experiencing special learning problems coupled with emotional and/or behavioral disturbances. After public school personnel identify students in need of services, a referral can be arranged through special education coordinators. The student population is composed of children with primary handicapping conditions of emotional disability, cognitive disability, learning disability, autism, other health-impaired conditions and traumatic brain injury. Educational placement occurs at no cost to parents.

DEVELOPMENTALLY-DISABLED TRANSITIONAL LIVING PHASE THE ACADEMY FOR AUTISM Director: Gwynetta Bullock

A “bridge” in services from residential facilities to adult developmentally-delayed services, this program is aimed at the opportunity to learn independent living skills and enhance the community integration of DCFS wards with a diagnosed Developmen-tal Disability. The program is designed to facilitate the smooth, successful transition of individuals into adult Department of Human Services – Developmental Disability funded services. The acquisition of these skills increases the likelihood of them being accepted in and ultimately successful in those adult placements.

The Academy for Autism serves students in grades K-12 with an educational or medical diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. The educational experience for students at The Academy for Autism includes evidence-based programming based on principles of applied behavior analysis, including functional behavior assessments and discrete trial teaching. Students benefit from low student-to-staff ratio (2:1); extensive staff training in teaching children with autism; speech and occupational therapy; mental health therapy and psychiatric services as needed; and care coordination to address both educational and medical needs. Consultation with a developmental pediatrician for evaluation and service planning will be provided with the goal of successfully transitioning students to home school districts where appropriate.
