Protecting our Sea and Shores
in the 21st Century
The Future Coastguard
Introduction
The proposals
will NOT:• change the radio communications network or the 999
arrangements• reduce the volunteer Coastguard Rescue Service• affect lifeboats and helicopters
but WILL:• improve resilience• share workload• make better use of work skills
Rescue Co-ordination Centres Today
We are staffed for peak activity all the time and the current structure does not allow for distribution of workload.
•One MRCC may be more than 5 times busier than another over a year
•An MRCC at a busy period can have 20 times more work than another at a quiet time
