Practical arts based therapy
Ø Visual Arts – Zen art with its
basis in mindfulness is a good tool
for improving sustained attention in
clients with ADHD.
Ø Music – Djembe’s (A traditional
African drum) can be used to improve
impulse control in clients suffering
from addiction.
Ø Drama and Movement – Is an excellent medium for self-expression especially with
clients suffering from mental health concerns.
The transcendent framework of Practical Arts Based Therapy (PABT) is
based in Contemporary Neuro-Cognitive Sciences and Indian Psychology.
PABT uses mediums like visual arts, music, stories, metaphors and dance
for effective therapeutic interventions.
Some examples of PABT
Therapists certified by us will be able to use multi-artistic modalities and
gain proficiency in facilitating therapeutic interventions enabling them to
achieve therapy goals and alleviate the suffering of their clients.
Students trained in Practical Arts Based Therapy will be able to use it with
Children with special needs (Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy,
ADHD, Asperger’s, etc.) Children at Risk (Street children, Orphanages,
Shelter homes, etc.) Adults with mental health concerns, (addiction,
schizophrenia, depression, personality disorders, trauma, etc.)
Course rationale
A survey conducted by Neuro-Psychiatrist Dr. Chhaya Sualy in
2013 demonstrated that clients preferred Arts Based Therapy over
other models of therapy. In controlled group studies, clients who
were part of the ABT focused groups were able to develop better
emotion regulation, impulse control, balanced self-image, etc. than
their counterparts who were not part of the controlled group study.
Since 2013 we have been conducting research projects on the
Efficacy of Arts Based Therapy with adults suffering from
addiction and mental health concerns. The results overwhelmingly
indicate the efficacy of Arts Based Therapy as a treatment
modality through qualitative and quantitative methods.
The results of our research
projects has motivated us to
model. So for the very first
time we are offering a Practical
- Arts Based Therapy (PABT)
course. In order to benefit the
therapeutic community, social
workers and caregivers it is
being presented in a systematic
easy to learn format.
