The Curriculum Innovation, Design and Development Committee (CIDD) comprises subject matter academic experts from public institutions, industry experts, and practising professionals. The CIDD designs and develops new programmes and reviews current programmes.

The CIDD is an innovative and effective strategy to assemble experts from diverse backgrounds to develop curriculum, where information/feedback/inputs are also factored into teaching and learning and material development. A team of academics (subject matter experts) and

other responsible stakeholders (commerce and industry, government, research organisations, distance learning experts, etc.) deliberate and decide on the structure and content of a programme.

The CIDD meets twice a year in April and September. After the CIDD workshop, a review is undertaken, where necessary, to revise curriculum content, without serious deviation from the accredited outcomes or the level (NQF) of the module and programme. This process ensures that the curriculum is updated, has cutting-edge technology and is globally competitive.

Richfield TVET division operates in the occupational qualifications sub-framework to roll out national occupational qualifications to learners who want a trade or occupation. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) equips them, not only with vocational skills, but with a broad range of knowledge, skills and attitudes that are now recognised as indispensable for meaningful participation in work and life.

According to research, TVET students obtaining both theoretical and practical training are preferred for employment by the engineering sector. The National Accredited Technical Education Diploma (NATED) programmes include the Mechanical, Electrical, Civil and Chemical Engineering fields. Studies in Engineering provide opportunities in various sectors of the economy and addresses the national skills shortages and facilitates economic growth and development in the country.

The acquisition of technical skills makes one more employable in the formal labour market and also develops entrepreneurial skills across many disciplines.

The aim of the business studies NATED programmes is to equip learners with skills in general business practices. Learners will

be able to select a programme that best suits their employment opportunities. The programmes for the business studies NATED courses available are Educare, Public Management, Human Resource Management, Management Assistant, Legal Secretary, Medical Secretary, Business Management, Financial Management, Marketing Management, Public Relations, Tourism and Hospitality, and Catering Services.

NATED programmes are delivered under the auspices of the Department of Higher Education and Training. The programmes consist of 18 months theoretical studies at the college and 18 months relevant practical application in workplaces. Engineering studies range from N1 to N6 while Business and Utility studies range from N4 to N6. The ultimate goal of the NATED courses is to award the student studying the course with an N6 Diploma.

Technical and Vocational Education will contribute to greater access to technical and vocational programmes in the Higher Education band. The central question contained in the White Paper (DHET: 2013) refers to how skills development can support the creation of a development state. Technical education will make an individual a valuable asset to the changing technological global environment.
