COUNCILS

The Lafferty Council meetings are really unlike any other industry event. The group tends to be small enough, senior enough and diverse enough to have some real discussion. They are run in an informal way that encourages debate and they strike the right balance between work and networking. I always leave having met some great people and having learned something new. Always three days very well spent.

Matt SloanManaging Director, EMEADiscover Financial Services - U.S. & Europe

Attending my first council was completely different from attending all these conferences that I have been to so far. Most speakers during conferences only share the top of the iceberg showing off the successes but not the challenges and the pitfalls. The set-up of the councils is such that participants are also willing to share what is below the surface thanks to the confidentiality within the group. You learn more, have more depth in your conversations with peers at executive level and as a result your network - and knowledge – will grow.

Over the years, I have found that Lafferty Council meetings have given those attending the opportunity to engage in open and honest dialogue. What is unique about the events is the tone set by both attendees and the Lafferty team. Whilst the room is crowded with competitors, the mood is non-competitive and beneficial. I’ve found that there has always been the opportunity to speak up and challenge the debate, whilst at the same time avoiding any negative feeling.

Andrew DoukanarisSVPJCB – Japan

For years, I heard a lot about the Lafferty Council meetings, by attending this for the first time, it added a lot of value to my understanding of the real business in the continent. I made so many new connections and even closed a good deal during the event, the value of the contents are extremely high and unique, I think I will always attend such meetings specially the ones in relation to Africa.

Designed in consultation with senior bankers and Lafferty Council members, our proprietary methodology uses banks’ annual reports and Lafferty’s research capabilities to build up a detailed picture of their financial position, management effectiveness, organisational culture, customer satisfaction and more.

We take a detailed, long term (typically over one credit cycle) look at a range of qualitative and quantitative factors to assess banks’ competitive position, while our expert analysts provide additional market context.

The qualitative factors include areas of critical importance to any bank including, for example, culture, strategy, customer satisfaction, and digital transformation; while quantitative factors include return on assets and loan to deposit ratios.

Understand the signals your annual report is sending. With a deep view across the world’s leading banks, we understand the winning bank quality metrics: what makes good culture, strategy and customer service.

The benchmarking report gives bank executives unique, actionable insight into their competitive positioning. Many clients select a wide range of banks including local and international competitors. Lafferty’s previous work on bank quality benchmarking shows that high quality banks are to be found all over the world. In initial studies, banks in the Middle East, Africa and Asia dominated the top ten positions, while well-known global banks from US and Europe often languished in the lower positions, despite their reputations and name recognition.
