Aims Kiefer Library

This tutorial will walk you through a database search using Proquest.

Proquest Tutorial

The steps and screen shots displayed in this tutorial will show you how to search for articles in the research database Proquest through the Aims Kiefer Library. The orange arrows

will point to items we discuss in each screen shot.

This is the basic search screen.

Basic Search Terms Use the box to the left of the search button to enter your

search term.

Search terms are typed in

here.

Using Two Terms in a Basic Search

§ If you have two terms you would like to search for such as “students” and“plagiarism,” you will need to insert “AND” between the two terms.

§ The next screen shows you an example.

Basic Search Using Two Terms

Type “AND” between your two search terms.

Basic Search Continued…§ In order to get the best results from

your search, you can ask the database to return only “full text” articles and articles from “scholarly journals.”

§ Choosing “Full text” will retrieve articles that have the entire article rather than just an abstract (summary of the article.)

Choosing Full Text

Click in the box to the left of “Full text documents only.”

Scholarly and Peer-Reviewed Articles§ “Scholarly and peer-reviewed articles” contain

articles on research conducted by experts in a certain field. These articles have undergone intensive review by experts to assure reliability and credibility.

§ The next slide shows where you would choose “Scholarly and peer-reviewed journals” for your search.

Here is the “scholarly journal” check box.

After you have entered your search terms and checked full text and scholarly journals, you will then press the search button.

Press the search button.

Our search gave us 75 possible articles. Here are the first few. If you scroll down the page, you will see more results. Additional results of our search can be seen on the next page.

Here is where you will see how many documents

were returned (75).

Scroll down the page to see more articles.

You can choose which order you want the articles listed such as most recent first.

To see more results, click on “Next” or the numbers in blue located at the bottom right of the results page.

The numbers here will take you to the next page of results. “Next” will too.
