PROFILE SUMMARY
Kianji is a professional geologist specializing in Geophysics/Seismology. She is
currently a Lecturer at the University of Nairobi with over 15 years working, teaching
and research experience in various aspects of geology, geophysics (seismology) and the
environment. She has eight (8) published papers and one master complete master
supervision. She is currently pursing PhD in Geophysics/ Seismology and is nearing
completion. Her core activities include teaching, research in geophysics/seismology
and geo-exploration for mine development. She has also been involved in the
geophysical evaluation for geo-energy, water and mineral resource exploration and
exploitation.
Kianji has received a presidential award “The Order of the Grand Worrior (OGW)” in
2008 as part of the Kenya Task Force for the Delineation of Kenya’s Outer
Continental Shelf. Kianji has been recently appointed as part of the selection panel for
the recruitment of the members of the Ethics and Anticorruption Commission by the
president though the process was later taken up by the Public Service commission.
She has served as the vice chairperson of Council at Machakos University College with
effect from the 9th of May 2012 to 31st of July 2013 when the new Education Act 2012
was affected. She was reappointed to serve in the new council from the 31st of July
2013 to date. During her term she has contributed immensely in the development of an
effective education and administrative framework that will soon see Machakos
University College become a fully pledged University soonest. Among key duties
allocated to her is the chair of the Machakos University Pension Scheme and the
academic and linkages committee of Council.
Kianji has held key leadership positions in her over 15 years of professional practice
and has served as the first lady chairperson of Geological Society of Kenya (GSK)
having transformed the society into a vibrant society. She is a member of Geologists
Registration Board (GRB), where she previously served as the vice-chair and chair of
the Geologist Registration Board Application Committee. She currently sits in two
boards of |Secondary schools and previously served in the District Education Board
(DEB) of Tigania west.
Kianji has played key roles in the drafting of various policies, bills and strategic plans.
She has coordinated various research and scientific conferences, workshops and
seminars with key stake holders. She has been able to attaché funds for various research
projects.

Karpinsky of state enterprises, polar marine
geoservey expedition, Ministry of Natural Resources
of the Russian Federation from April 25th to June 6th
2008. This was in fulfillment of the requirement of
the UN Convection on the Law of the Sea
(UNCLOS) on the delineation and extension of
Kenya’s outer continental shelf beyond 200 nautical
