  • The originally plan that I had for the project is to doa magazine based on TV Shows.

The negatives that I have with this idea is that it istoo generic and nothing special. But the positives of

this idea is that I am passionate about TV Showsand there is a wide range of aspects that I can talk

    about.

To make it more interesting I thought to do thehistory and evolution of TV Shows and how they

have progressed. However, I always had my mindset on doing the magazine about Daredevil because

it is my favorite TV Show. So I decided to do areview and a look back at the TV Show.

This led to the new problem of having a wholemagazine about one TV Show would seem boring

and tedious so I decided to make it a Magazineabout Netflix Action TV Shows with the first issuebeing on Daredevil. This eventually changed and

instead of it being on Netflix action shows, I am nowdoing it on Superhero films, TV Shows and video

games with the first issue being Daredevil.

  • In this project I will be doing a review and a look back atSuperhero content such as the movies, TV shows and Video

Games. For this issue I will be focusing on the Marvel Netflix TVShow "Daredevil".

I have chosen to do this because I am very passionate aboutDaredevil and I enjoy watching action shows. The research that I

will be doing is rewatching the Daredevil to refresh myself onwhat happens and I will be doing notes throughout. I will be

doing secondary research by researching magazines that talkabout TV Shows and see the word choices and language they

    use.

The aims that I have for this project is to give a review and I willalso be analyzing it for people have seen it and are looking back.

The target audience for the project is going to be people whoare are comic book fans and have watched the TV Show.

    Proposal for the project:

  • The colors that I will be using in my magazine is going to be white, black, red and blue as these are the primary colors that are

associated with Daredevil. The images that I will be usingthroughout are going to be the promotional images of the show

as these have the highest quality.

On the technical side, I will attempt to edit a video into themagazine of director's commentary on some of the scenes withinthe show. If I am unable to do this then I will be do a short review

    in the video.

Some problems that I will need to overcome is getting the shortvideo the way I want it to look and feel and also getting it into themagazine. I will also need to deal with some InDesign issues as I

haven't used it in a while.

    Proposal for the project:

  • In the research stage, I started by looking upmagazines cover involving superheroes to see whatthey have done. I also looked at TV Show Magazinesto get a feel of what they do. I will be looking at their

front pages, content pages and double spreadpages to see the pictures and colours they have

    used.

  • The font category of the first cover isGlyphic Serif and for the second cover

its Neoclassical & Didone Serif. This font is effective because it is veryclear to read and also has a sharp feelto it and is personally my favorite font. The target audience for this font arepeople who read about celebrities.

Evaluation of existing Serif font examples:

  • The font category of the first cover is Square SansSerif and the font category for the second cover is

Geometric Sans Serif. This font is effective because it is very bold and

catches the eye immediately and draws you in. It isvery simple which I find effective and easy to read.

The target audience for this font are for people whoread about TV news and celebrities.

Evaluation of existing Sans Serif font examples:

  • The font category of the first cover andsecond cover is Formal Scripts.

This font is effective because it is uniqueand gives the cover a sense of style. Italso stands out among the other fonts

and magazines. The target audience that I associate with

this font are people who love fashionand decoration.

Evaluation of existing Script font examples:

  • This magazine spread uses the design ruleof symmetrical

This magazine spread utilizes the rule ofthirds as it is shown with the mountain

being to the right instead of in the center

    Evaluation of existing magazine Spreads:

  • The design rule that this spread is using isasymmetrical

The design of this magazine spread iscontrast.

    Evaluation of existing magazine Spreads:

  • Magazine name progression:

These are the choices for mytitle but in the end I decided togo with ACTION because it is

    simple yet effective

  • Practicing with the InDesignsoftware for the project:

    My practice spread

    The existing influence spread:

This is my attempt toemulate an existing

magazine spread. I didthis to understand the

InDesign software and topractice before creating

    my project

  • The inspiration that I took from the right is having themain character in the forefront of the cover. I also

had the main character being placed over the title ofthe magazine. I also took the super hero special and

turned it into the first issue special.

My final design for the cover:

    Influence

    Work in progess

  • The inspiration that I took from the right into mycontent design was having the main character

being shaded with red on one side of their body. Ithought this was effective and something that

would be seen in my type of magazine.

My final design for the contentpage:

  • My final design for the magazine spreadand article for Daredevil Season 1:

The inspiration that I took from the double spreadinto my own double spread is the whole designwith the character in the center on the left pageand the text on the right. I also loved the flip thatthey did and tried to emulate it into my own work

  • SEASON ONEMatt Murdock (Charlie Cox) spends his days as a blind attorney at a law firmwith his best friend Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Secretary Karen Page(Deborah Ann Woll). While at night, he is the vigilante known as Daredevil ashe uses his heightened senses to uncover the rise of Hell’s Kitchen’s newestcrime boss, Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio)

Marvel’s Daredevil is written by Bill Everett and developed by Drew Goddardand is beloved by many comic book fans. The first season is influenced byFrank Miller’s successful Daredevil origin story titled “The Man Without Fear.”The cinematography by Matthew J. Lloyd is breath-taking and feels more likea movie than a TV show. Many of the shots throughout the series are takenstraight from the pages of Marvel comics. The two prime examples of theseis the last shot from episode 13 and the scene of Matt boxing alone fromepisode 1. These borrow from Volume 2 #6 and a mix of The Man WithoutFear and Daredevil: Yellow, respectively. Chris Brewster is the choreographer for the show and deserves much creditas the fight scenes are thrilling and jaw-dropping. The scene that instantlymade the series a hit is the beautifully crafted hallway fight that is a 5 minuteand a half one take scene. Many of the fight scenes are affected by thecomics, such as the first fight scene that is heavily impacted by The ManWithout Fear and the final showdown between Fisk and Murdock that wastaken from Volume 1 #171 and #300.One of the greatest aspects of the show is the relationship between MattMurdock and Foggy Nelson which is incredibly acted by Charlie Cox andElden Henson. Episode 10 focues so much on their friendship as it displaystheir beginnings at law school, which is also influenced by Daredevil’s originstory, and how it is falling apart due to Murdock’s double life as The Devil ofHell’s Kitchen.

My final written magazine articlefor Daredevil Season 1:

  • After Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) is put behind bars, Hell's Kitchenseems to be brought to order. But with the arrival of ruthlessmercenary, Frank Castle (John Bernthal), conflicted assassin ElektraNatchios (Elodie Yung) and an ancient ninja clan known as The Hand,Matt Murdock's (Charlie Cox) personal life and vigilante life asDaredevil come crashing down around him.

Daredevil season two is written by Bill Everett and developed by DrewGoddard. Just like its predecessor, season two is influenced by worksof Frank Miller, this is prominent with the introduction of Elektra, whowas created by Miller in Daredevil #168 and by having Daredevil andThe Punisher come to blows as Miller was the first writer to do this inDaredevil #183.

The first four episodes of the season are a masterpiece, and this is nobetter shown than with the uneasy interaction between Murdock andCastle on the rooftop in "New York's Finest". This whole encounter isan incredible homage to "The Devil by the Horns" a comic book wherethe ideologies between the two rivals are contradicted in a compellingand dark way and is the origin to the iconic Punisher quote of "Theone I make every time I pull the trigger."

One of the most dramatic points from Daredevil's history is the deathof Elektra in Daredevil #181. The show takes this classical momentand twists it in a surprisingly heart-breaking way where the senselessmurder turns into a heroic sacrifice to save the man she loves.

Overall, season two is a weaker season compared to season one as bythe fifth episode, it turns its back on the Frank Castle storyline andfocuses most of its time on The Hand as a setup to The Defenders, ashow that didn't live up to expectations. Season two is still worthwatching for comic fans of the beloved hero.

My final written magazine articlefor Daredevil Season 2:

  • Daredevil season 3 is a masterpiece of a season with its plot andcharacter developments. The season is heavily inspired by the twobiggest Daredevil story arcs that destroy Matt Murdock’s life, “Born

    Again” and “Guardian Devil.”

This season is also responsible for introducing the hero’s deadliestenemy, Bullseye. Bullseye’s first appearance was in 1976 with

Daredevil #131. He is a psychopathic assassin and considered bymost fans as the “Joker” of the Daredevil’s rogues gallery.

In the show, his real name is Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter, and theshow details his journey to becoming the famed assassin. First

appearing at the end of episode 2, his origins is explored throughflashbacks in Episode 5 “The Perfect Game”. The flashbacks are toldin a unique way and reveals his childhood playing baseball which isbased on Bullseye: Greatest Hits #2 with his first confirmed kill in

the show being that of his baseball coach.

In “The Devil You Know” the first fight between Matt and Dex isincredible with breath-taking choreography. Dex is impersonating

Daredevil which is an homage to Born Again where Kingpindressed an inmate as Daredevil to kill Matt’s loved ones. Dex beingdaredevil is effective as it symbolizes how the two rivals are mirroropposites of one another but not completely different either and

this fight clearly demonstrates the ruthlessness and skill thatBullseye has.

Sadly, Daredevil was cancelled after its third season and althoughthe rivalry between Murdock and Fisk ended in a satisfying way, thewriters had just barely scratched the surface with the stories that

they can tell with Daredevil and Bullseye.

  • This project is a magazine and retrospective review of the MarvelNetflix TV show, Daredevil. The aims of the magazine was to give a

review of each season and talk about the influence that the Daredevilcomics had on the show. The reason for this project was to teach us

about knowing and marketing to our target audience.

The target audience that my magazine was marketing towards weremales who were fans of the show and either knew about the comics

or had an interest in learning about them. I believe that I havesuccessfully marketed to this audience with the male imagery that I

have used throughout the magazine as well as the masculine coloursof the images being red, blues and blacks. In the magazine articles

that I have written, I have also targeted towards my intendedaudience by explaining the background of Daredevil and his comicsin a simplified way so that anyone can understand and follow along

and still receive the necessary information. The research that I did formy articles was secondary research on Google to get factually

    accurate in the reviews.

The creative journey in the project started when I researched covers, content pages and double spreads of various superhero and TV

show magazines to get an inspiration that I could emulate inInDesign. I also researched and evaluated several fonts to get an

understanding of what type of magazines use them and which onethat I should use. In the end, I went with using square sans serif forthe cover title although in the content page I used glyphic serif. I've

developed upon my InDesign skills throughout the project andattempted new techniques such as using photoshop to help create

    the cover.

    Evaluation of project:

  • Evaluation of project:One of the requirements of the project was producing a video. Thisis the part of the project were I struggled as I couldn't find an editing

software to use or what I was going to do for the video. After trialruns with various software's, I ended up using an app on my tablet

and I decided to talk about the character of Bullseye from Daredevilseason 3. New skills that I developed during this project is creating,

editing and uploading videos. Editing skills that I have learnt isediting background music into the video, changing the volume of

the voice over and the music as well as adding text and images overthe voice over. Additionally, I have learnt how to flip images and give

them tints as well as adding shadows to the text and transitions.

The things that I would like to improve upon is the magazine inInDesign as I never finished it and I would of finished the content

page and adding two more double spreads for the Daredevil season2 article and the video. Personally, I would like to improve on the

season 1 article by giving it a conclusion and my overall thoughts ofthe season as a whole. In the video, I would of made it longer andtalk more in-depth about Bullseye and his journey in the show and

    connections to the comics.
