    Executive Summary

During Drilling, the basic requirement is theMud Circulation System, without it drillingcannot be done. In Both cases(i.e onshore &offshore) drilling, mud is circulated throughrisers, But when the water depth is more than3500m in offshore wells, Riser systembecomes inefficient and crude oil cannot beproduced economically. To overcome this?problem , Riserless Mud Recovery(RMR)system is used.. It is an alternative & effective?

method for producing crude oil from an ultradeep offshore well. ?????????????????????????????????

We are going to present the basics of RMRSystem, Research Methology , How it can beimplemented, Technical, Financial &Managerial plan, Results, and pros & cons.

    Research Methology

Riserless drilling primarily uses seawater, rather thandrilling mud, to manage the borehole because drilling mudcannot be recirculated. Seawater has a significantly lowerdensity than drilling mud, thus the boreholes are morelikely to collapse with increasing hole depth as the porepressure exceeds the hydrostatic pressure exerted by theseawater. For deeper drilling, drilling mud with regulated densitymust be continuously circulated in order to keep the borehole fromcollapsing and to remove cuttings from the borehole. The widelyaccepted standard equipment to establish continuous circulation is amarine drilling riser, which provides a conduit for returning the mudand cuttings to the drill rig. Current riser depth capabilities, however, only extend to just over 3047 m and are extremely expensive.Scientific ocean drilling and the energy industry have ultra-deepwatertargets of interest beyond the reach of current risers. Research is

underway to design risers of even greater depth potential using acombination of metallic and composite materials. However, the

    Implemention schedule

Drilling in extreme water depths requires theuse of the riserless drilling technique which

is not constrained by the length limitations of a riser system (riser).

On field experts will be hired to train industry

professionals for general and specialized field work, aswell as operating the machinery involved.

    Technical plan

RMR provides a dual gradient drilling setup of the well, while capturing the drilling fluid andreturning it to the drillship . The term dualgradient implies two hydrostatic gradients: 1)the seawater gradient that begins at the seasurface, and 2) the drilling mud gradient thatbegins at the seafloor.

Conduits to transfer materials from theseafloor to production and drilling facilitiesatop the water's surface, as well as from thefacility to the seafloor, subsea risers are atype of pipeline developed for this type of vertical transportation.

    results

Riserless Mud Recovery(RMR) system is tobe installed on hyper deep offshore wellsinstead of riser system as it is economicallyviable, installation is easy, provides lowrisk, easy to handle.

The technology, known as Riserless Mud

Recovery (RMR), has been developed andcommercialized by the Norwegian firm, AGRDrilling Services (http://www.agr.com/).

    Pros & cons

    Pros:

Mitigates Capital Costs of Riser Pipe. Eliminates Riser Tensioning & Maintenance. Reduced Installation Time. Less Mud Volumes to Fill Riser. Lower Inspection & Handling Costs. Selection of Lower Cost Drilling Vessels. Less Handling = Enhanced Safety Benefits. Enables Reverse Circulation. Greater Degree of Vessel Drifting. As the number of casing strings can be

reduced, the upfront costs for this materialcan be significantly reduced. Collecting and reusing drilling mudsignificantly reduces the amount of mudrequired to install an offshore well.

    Cons:

RMR does not have proven technologies, procedures, and equipment to date.only 2 bigdrilling companies are installing this till date.
