Proposal for Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve Eco-Tourism:- Locality:- Mannanur Eco-tourism Project of Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve which is located in Mahaboobnagar District became part of Telangana State after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh State. There is no Eco-tourism Project available in NSTR. In order to establish a Eco-tourism area of NSTR, Bairluty locality of Atmakur Mandal of Kurnool District is identified to develop as a Eco-tourism Project of NSTR in Andhra Pradesh. The Bairluty has been selected due to 1) Road accessibility from Kurnool, Vijayawada, Nandyal and Giddalur and Srisailam. 2) Around 7 Ha of fenced land (which is used as Govt. Timber Depot at present, though there is no much timber storage) can be used for creative the accommodation and recreation infrastructure.

Proposal for Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve Eco-Tourism:- Locality:-

Mannanur Eco-tourism Project of Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger

Reserve which is located in Mahaboobnagar District became part of Telangana

State after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh State. There is no Eco-tourism

Project available in NSTR.

In order to establish a

Eco-tourism area of NSTR,

Bairluty locality of Atmakur

Mandal of Kurnool District is

identified to develop as a

Eco-tourism Project of NSTR

in Andhra Pradesh.

The Bairluty has been selected due to

1) Road accessibility from Kurnool, Vijayawada, Nandyal and Giddalur

and Srisailam.

2) Around 7 Ha of fenced land (which is used as Govt. Timber Depot at

present, though there is no much timber storage) can be used for

creative the accommodation and recreation infrastructure.

3) It is outside the Core area and located in the Reserve Forest and

Buffer Zone of Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve.

4) It will promote livelihood opportunities for the Chenchu Tribals of

Bairluty Gudem, Nagaluty Gudem and Pecheruvu Gudem

5) Electricity facility, Primary Health Centre and transport are available

in Bairluty.

6) Large number of visitors go through Bairluty to Srisailam during

Mahasivarathri and Ugadi times.

Infrastructure:-

The following infrastructure is essential for improving the facilities for

the visitors.

1. Semi-permanent Cottages with attached Bathrooms

2. Semi-permanent Dormitory for large group of visitors

3. Establishing Souvenir shop

4. Providing Solar lights near accommodation for visitors

5. Canteen run by Bairluty Eco-Development Committee

6. Providing recreational facilities to the visitors and children

7. Watch Tower

8. Open Auditorium for community functions

9. Tribal products Store

Community Based Eco – Tourism:-

The tourism facilities will be managed by the Eco-Development

Committee of Bairluty in the form of community based eco-tourism.

Eco Tourism is an opportunity to generate income and employment in

EDC of Bairluty, Nagaluty and Pecheruvu Gudem.

1. Eco Tourism may reduce or eliminate traditional resource use.

2. The Eco Tourists, as consumers, may benefit local residents.

3. When residents receive benefits, they are more likely to support

tourism and conservation, even to the point of protecting the

sanctuary against poaching or other encroachments.

The participation of the Community in Eco Tourism is often perceived

as the best option for achieving their aspiration of sustainable development.

The active local community participation in the planning process and in

operation management is essential in order to achieve the conservation and

sustainable development goals of Eco Tourism.

Training:- In order for communities to assume full roles as players in Eco

Tourism development, adequate and comprehensive training opportunities

will be given in all spheres of Eco Tourism Management, including guiding,

languages, food preparation, accountancy and administration.

Access to the Market:- For getting access to the Market, the Eco-tourism

project in Rollapadu have to get the communication accessories like

Telephone connection

Computer system with Internet connection

Own website with online booking and payment facilities

Organization:- The EDC of Bairluty will identify an educated person in the village or

any suitable person as the Coordinator of the Tourism Project. The EDC will

pass a resolution to select 20 or more persons (Half of the women) to manage

the tourism facilities. The Deputy Range Officer, Bairluty and coordinator will

monitor the functioning of the selected persons from the EDC. A separate

joint account will be opened by the Deputy Range Officer and Coordinator. All

transactions in the bank and others have to be supported by the Resolutions

of the EDC. The selected members of the Nagaluty EDC and Pecheruvu EDC

will be utilized as Guides for Tourists, while the members of Bairluty EDC will

manage the infrastructure facilities in Bairluty.

Visitors will be provided with options of trekking routes and vehicle

routes along with Guides.

Income generation and profit distribution:-

Income generation will be done through the following ways.

1. Rental charges for rooms, dormitories, open auditorium and

tents

2. Maintenance of Canteen

3. Maintenance of Souvenir Shop

4. Guides for Tourists

5. Vehicle User Charges

6. Camera User Charges All the amount collected as above will be deposited in the joint

account. 50% of the income will be distributed as wages for the coordinator

and other persons of the Eco-development Committee to manage the tourism

project. 20% of the income will be used for maintaining the facilities and

the remaining 30% will be kept as a future investment.

For the maintenance of 1st Year, the budget has to be provided initially.

From the 2nd Year onwards the maintenance charges may be taken care by the

Eco-Development Committee, Bairluty Gudem

Initial investment:- For creation of the infrastructure facilities and maintenance of the

existing facilities, the following budgetary proposals are submitted.

Guiding principles:- As Nagarjunasagar Srisailam Tiger Reserve is a Wildlife Sanctuary and a

Project Tiger area, it is governed by the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, A.P.

Forest Act, 1967 and the orders / directions / guidelines given by the Hon’ble

Supreme Court of India, Ministry of Environmental of Forests Government of

India, National Tiger Conservation Authority, New Delhi and Government of

Andhra Pradesh. The Protected Area Managers, Tourism Managers and the

visitors will have to follow these Act and orders / directions and guidelines.

Any deviation from these will not be entertained.
