The Story of a Polyhouse village –Bir Baijnath, HP
• The story relates to village Bir in block Baijnath of Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh which is
frequently visited by tourists for a Tibetian Monastery nearby and as an emerging polyhouse
village. Being a tourist attraction, the place enjoys good exposure from the foreigners which
helped the farmer community of the area know that there is a growing demand for exotic and off-
season crops like spinach, celery, lettuce, colored capsicum and tomato. The farmers found that
growing of vegetables is more suitable for their area and it can uplift their socio-economic status.
These farmers started growing vegetables in open fields but the area has sudden climatic shifts
and the area is prone to sudden thunder storms, hailing, and untimely rains coinciding with fruiting
seasons. Which many times spoils their crops or reduce the yield tremendously.
Shri Vidhichand, Village BirBaijnath (mobile :+91-8091934967 )
Shri Vidhi Chand runs a small shop in the village and has constructed two
polyhouses from Jain irrigation system of sizes 504 sqm and 105 sqm.
