Uncle Gus and The Rimshots are Hobart’s newest (and quite possibly, Hobart’s youngest) swing/jive band.

Playing the music of swing/jive greats like Louis Jordan, Louis Prima and Bull Moose Jackson; Uncle Gus and The Rimshots create a fun-loving and energetic atmosphere that is sure to get everyone buzzing. Gus Leighton fronts the band on lead vocals and roaring saxophone, while Dave Cavallo squawks away on trumpet and Adam Davenport-Hortle slides around on the trombone. Piano player Mathew Olivier, bassist Hadyn Murtagh, guitarist Thomas Hann and drummer Damien Oliver-Black work togeth-er to provide a cookin’ rhythm section that will get everyone singing and dancing along to the swing hits of yesterday and today.

Mouldy Fig, lead by vocalist Anita van Riet perform a reper-toire of heartfelt 1920s jazz and blues tunes, and the occasional gospel tune. Anita has been singing jazz and blues for over 20 years, including a number of tributes to Bessie Smith. Evident in her performances is an empathy for the powerfully raw but soulfully nuanced (although sometimes quirky) tunes of the early 20s. Anita is accompanied by her son David Elliston on piano, Rainer Gartz on sax and clarinet, Isaac Gee on bass and Jimi Brown on drums.

GARMENTS with HOBART JAZZ CLUB LOGO Some members will have seen other members sporting a polo or rugby shirt embroidered with the Jazz Club logo. Anyone wanting to purchase one (or more) may do so by filling in the order form below. Please use a separate order form for each shirt type. There is also the option to bring in your own garment to have the HJC logo embroidered onto it with the proviso that the garment is either brand new, recently dry cleaned or freshly laundered. LOGO (only) $ 12.00 on own garment If you wish to purchase a shirt or garment from the club, prices range from $18 to $35. The garments come in a wide range of colours and are very good quality and value for mon-ey. They come in a wide range of sizes from small to 4XL. The logo is in colour, as on our name tags. The word TASMANIA under the logo is embroidered in gold. Hot August Jazz Logos are also available; these are best on a black garment.
