Nothing can guarantee the security of your computer 100 percent.

You can continue to improve your computer's security and decrease the possibility of infection by using a firewall, keeping your system up-to-date, maintaining a current antivirus software subscription, and following some best practices.

Page 18: Project Work Subject: Viruses

1. Use an Internet firewall.

2. Use a high-quality anti-virus program, and be sure to update it regularly. Use it to scan any files, programs, software, or diskettes (even new software from a commercial company) before you use them on your computer.

3. Make back-up copies of important documents or files and store them on separate diskettes. Making backups will also protect your information against accidental file deletion, diskette failure, and other damage.

4. Never open an e-mail attachment from someone you don't know.

5. Avoid opening an e-mail attachment from someone you know, unless you know exactly what the attachment is. The sender may be unaware that it contains a virus.

6. Stay current: Most often users of an infected PCS are not aware that their PCs are infected.

7. Know the common symptoms of an infected.

Antivirus software (or anti-virus) is computer software used to identify and remove computer viruses, as well as many other types of harmful computer software, collectively referred to as malware.

While the first antivirus software was designed exclusively to combat computer viruses, most modern antivirus software can protect against a wide range of malware,

including worms, rootkits, and trojans.
