Project update

Chaffey Dam safety upgrade and augmentation February 2016

The project involves works to:

• Increase the permanent storage capacity of Chaffey Dam from 62,000ML to 100,000ML to secure water supplies for the Peel Valley; and

• Ensure the dam complies with NSW Dam Safety Committee standards for extreme floods.

Construction is on track for completion by April 2016.

Dam wall and morning glory spillway works

Raising the main dam wall by 8m and raising the morning glory spillway (MGS) bell mouth by 6.5m.

Dam wall raising update:

• Dam wall raising work is nearing completion.

• The original parapets stored from prior to the upgrade will be placed along the top of the raised wall

• Installation of guardrails and handrails will also take place over the coming weeks.

Morning Glory Spillway (MGS) update:

• Raising the Morning Glory Spillway is 50% complete

• Five of ten concrete pours have taken place to date.

• Concrete is being poured in a staged approach to maximise the strength of the structure.

Bowling Alley Point Bridge and road works

Construction of a new bridge and realignment of Nundle Road to accommodate the higher water level of the augmented dam.

Update:

• Construction of the new Bowling Alley Point bridge and road works are complete.

• Rehabilitation of the site is continuing and has been assisted by the recent rain.

• Road signage has been erected in accordance with Tamworth Regional Council requirements.

Other news

Storage level

Despite the recent rain the storage is currently sitting at around 51% of capacity. The project team will continue to monitor the storage level and forecast inflows to take action if necessary.

Western Foreshore Road (West Bank Road)

Potentially impacted residents are encouraged to make submissions for consideration regarding the proposed road closure during Tamworth Regional Council’s submissions process.

Fundraising for local communities

Contractors John Holland have raised almost $5,000 which has been shared between local organisations including the Nundle and Woolomin Schools and Woolomin Cricket Club.
