VOLUMES AND THE PORTS

Pure numbers suggest that the ro-

pax network has remained constant

and passengers still have all their

opportunities to travel across the

Ionian Sea to Italy although

sometimes under another house flag

than a year before.

MARKET SPECIFICS

RoRo/ferry Shipping is a specific market with a huge diversity of goods carried onboard as well as a distinctive mix of freight and passenger services.

Along with trucks, semi-trailers or project cargo, there are private cars, buses, vans, caravans, motorbikes, or even passenger railcars in some countries which most often are not included in any statistics, even though they all take up space on a ship in different proportions and configuration.

Some ferries carry mostly trucks, others are almost full of private cars, and their capacity is not evenly utilized. Some Ro-ro services deal with relatively lightweight freight (like new cars), others are filled with several types of cargo at one time and exact data for all carried goods are hard to obtain.

Therefore, because a fair market assessment must include in the business characteristics an additional measure – lane performance - which is more qualitative than pure units of gross tonnage, lane meters capacity to accommodate passengers or even traditional work in tone-kms (or ton-miles) is added more.

The tone-kilometers do not inform about the real transport potential, as space can be fully utilized by vehicles skipped in freight statistics (e.g. private cars) which then does not necessarily indicate wrongly adjusted tonnage or vessels sailing but simply a different fraction for the ferry route.

OUTLOOK ON THE FUTURE

The past few years have witnessed a complete transformation in the outlook of the

RoRo/Passenger/Ferry Industry in the Igoumenitsa – Italy Sea routes.

This region is now recording some of the most rapid demand increases in the Mediterranean and there

is a clear scope for significant and sustained inward investments.

Several major factors have come together to generate this situation:

A. The very serious effort towards reforming the port operations in Igoumenitsa Port resulting in

providing port infrastructure that really promotes combined transports.

B. The modernization of port operating systems and management have seen considerable

improvements in productivity and cost structures. At the same time, competitive pressures between

the major terminals have developed very rapidly with intermodalism extending the effective

hinterlands of those ports movements.

C. The comparative benefits of the cost of transport , the speed and the path’s safety as opposed to the

road axes through Bulgaria-Romania to the north or via Bulgaria-F.Y.R.O.M.-Albania ( via

Egnatia) have made the Adriatic Sea Motorway the most important transport axes of Northern

Balkans with Europe.

VISION – EXPERIENCE

Evangelos Bacharidis, the instigator of this project, after careful and detailed observation of the above mentioned (2) Ports and their traffic decided to seek

financing for the acquisition of (2) RoRo/Passenger/Ferries to deploy them at the Regular Line: Igoumenitsa – Italy - Igoumenitsa.

Evangelos Bacharidis is tailor-made for managing this investment opportunity because of his 25 years experience in the shipping industry. More specific: 20 years

in the RO/RO/Passenger Ferries and as Manager of the Ships Hospitality Department. And as dated Ship-Owner.

After many comparisons of the RoRo/Pasenger/Ferries that

currently service the specific route, Mr. Bacharidis reached

the conclusion that the acquisition/management of (2)

vessels (approximately with the specifications that follow)

can serve a steady percentage (%) of the Demand currently

existing in the specific Marketplace. As well as in the future.
