PROJECT PROPOSAL

I. General Information

Project Title: ICT Integration Training-Workshop for Santa Cruz North Central

Proponent: Mrs. Juna R. Villaruel

Beneficiaries: 13 Elementary Teachers

Proposed Project Budget:

Total Proponent Counterpart:

Target Date of Implementation: October 26-30, 2015

II. Background Information/Rationale

Studies showed that the use of computers and educational softwares in teaching have significant

impact on pupils’ learning outcomes (Fritz, 2009). Pupils are highly motivated and focused in any lesson

which involves manipulation of computers and teachers act as facilitators of learning rather than talking

all throughout the lesson. Knowing and recognizing the significant impact and good effect of technology

in today’s generation of learners, the Philippine Government, through the Department of Education has

been doing a massive campaign on the utilization, application, and integration of Information

Communication in teaching and learning. In fact, the guidelines for the effective implementation of

elementary curriculum in the Philippines clearly stated that the use of Information Technology and

Communication in instruction will help develop learners to be empowered in a rapid changing world

(DepEd, 2009). This directive of the department mandated all the public elementary schools in the

country to use learning equipment and materials which include computer programs that are educational,

interactive, and experiential.

Santa Cruz North Central School has just received its e-learning package. The school also is in

preparation for internet connectivity. Its 13 teachers have background already on basic data encoding and

computer operation. In addition, almost all teachers have their own personal computers or laptops that

they are using in preparing daily lessons and computing grades. The fact that they knew already the basics

in computer operation is a great advancement for teachers to proceed to the next level of ICT application,

that is ICT integration. This is also inconsonance to the DepEd-Division of Marinduque ICT in Education

Program. One of the thrusts of the ICT in Education Program is the ICT Integration Program which

includes the inclusion of Computer Lesson in the curriculum which shall start in Grade 4, the use of

blended instruction and the like. The DepEd in general believes that today’s learners need to acquire the

21st century skills such as information, media, and technology skills for them to become the 21 st century

learners. However, this could only be possible if teachers are the 21 st century teachers too. Thus,

teachers, as the catalysts of change must be the first to know, learn, and experience the so called ICT

integration.

These premises prompted the proponent the idea of proposing District ICT Integration training

for elementary grades teachers. This may serve also as the district initiated training to be of help to realize

the Division ICT in Education Program.
