    Motivation

Drawbacks of present meter reading system

The motivation for us to take up this project is the current

inefficient distribution system of the electricity boards all

over the world. Also the present inability of the authorities in applying the

existing laws in a stringent form has encouraged more and

more people to involve in such unlawful activities.

There is no proper way to know The consumers maximum demand

    Usage details

    Losses in the lines

Also the present inability of the authorities in

applying the existing laws in a stringent form

has encouraged more and more people to involvein such unlawful activities.

The severe power shortage can be overcome by

the implementation of our simple system. More over this kind of implementation of proper

billing to all the customers would reduce the

reckless use of power and would surely help usto build a greener and more eco friendly

    environment for ourselves

ELECTRICITY theft makes up a hefty 25 per cent of

the estimated 22 per cent total line losses. At todays

tariff rates, this translates into a staggering Rs5075billion. Unfortunately, the cases of electricity thefts are

increasing, affecting the very viability of the power

    sector.

Stemming this loss can result in curbing the growth in

electricity rates by at least 1015 per cent. Another 0.7

million customers have since been detected for theftsduring July to November 2010 in addition to the 1.50

million found during 2009-10. Still greater efforts are

    required to completely stop theft.

    Power theft

    1. Meter Tempering

    2. Kunda system

    For Meter Tempering

Phase current and neutral current are almost

same. In case of any imbalance in these

currents relay will operate and connectionwill be disconnected.

    For kunda system

Every transformer is equipped with a meter

that sends the meter readings to the

authority end. By comparing the number of

out going units and the units consumed by

the customers at that particular area, a

report can be generated. If there are any

mismatches that is, the sum of the unitsconsumed are less than the out going units

there is a power theft at that location.

    Conclusion

This project of ours is aimed at reducing

the heavy power and revenue losses that

occur due to power theft by the customers.

We by this design would like to conclude

that the power theft can be effectively

curbed by detecting where the power theftoccurs inform the authorities.

Also a automatic circuit breaker may be

integrated to the unit so as to remotely cut off the

power supply to the house or consumer who triesto indulge in power theft.

The ability of our system to inform or send data

digitally to a remote station using GSM.

Thus by the above mentioned design we can

successfully and effectively address the problemsrelated to power theft by the consumers, in a

    completely automated, wire-free, cost effective

and most importantly a reliable way.

Adaptable to Change in Power Tariff

View on the max power demand and usage

    details of a user

Accurate data of losses in the lines

No need of bill production distribution and

    chase payments

    Socially acceptable

Customer himself will be responsible fordisconnection in case of illegal use or no

    payment of bill

Payment Solution is very much flexiblebecause daily, weekly or monthly budgeting

    can be done

No hidden surprises in the cost of theenergy

The costs associated with installing the

equipment would be much less than the

losses currently generated by power theft
