PM Graduate Certificate Program Information

• This one-year Ontario College Graduate Certificate Program

prepares graduates for a rewarding managerial career in the field of

Project Management.

• Students are provided with the tools, perspective and the expertise

necessary to successfully achieve results and deliver value.

• Through the application of concepts, strategies and best practices,

students learn to move a project through its lifecycle phases.

• With hands-on learning, the program integrates advanced concepts

and provides exposure to key functional areas in project

management, preparing students for leadership roles.

• Students develop a critical understanding of ten knowledge areas

according to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK).

• The combination of in class and practical elements of project

management enables students to acquire creative, practical and

advanced expertise that contribute to the effective management of

the critical elements and ensure overall project success.

Project Management Institute (PMI) and is approved by the PMI to

issue Professional Development Units (PDU) for its training courses.

Applied Projects

• The student asked if I have an applied project

opportunity. What is an applied project?• Students are required to complete an applied project during the

second semester of the program

• Applied projects serve as vehicles for incorporating all skills

obtained and provide opportunity to handle real life challenges

• Through a hands-on project, students manage the full project life

cycle, from the initiation through to completion phase of either a

complete project or of a significant deliverable(s)

• Students benefit by leveraging acquired knowledge, applying

essential tools and techniques to accurately translate customer

requirements into successful project deliverables

Roles and Responsibilities

Student

• Find and negotiate applied project opportunity

• Agree upon hours and days worked in collaboration with the host

• Ensure opportunity is for PM tasks only

• Complete the Student Consent Form

• Complete required Health and Safety training

• Complete applied project course deliverables

• Submit applied project report upon completion of applied project

Host

• Identify and negotiate applied project opportunity for Project Management Post Grad students

• Limit the opportunity to project management tasks only

• Agree upon hours and days worked in collaboration with the student

• Complete required College paperwork to finalize applied project placement

• Complete student evaluation report at end of applied project

Coordinator/College

• Coach and mentor students

• Ensure all required paperwork and training is complete to ensure a safe and secure applied project

• Coordinate resume writing support

• Answer student and host questions/concerns

• Deliver Applied Project Management course

Applied Projects

• How many hours does the applied project need

to be?• Students are required to work for 60 hours.

• This can be an average of 4 hours per week if the applied

project duration lasts the entire term

• Hours can fluctuate weekly as required by the project, but the

minimum must be 60 hours in total

• If you need the student to work more than the 60 hour minimum,

you may negotiate this with the student

• The more experience the student gets, the better prepared they

will be for their career

• Do I need to pay the student?• No

• Students are required to complete an applied project as part of

their course requirements

• If, however, you wish to pay the student for their services, you

may negotiate this with the student, but it is not a requirement of

the program
