Profile

Disabled in a severe assault at the commencement of his PhD but recently recovered after time out of the workplace. A mature student at the University of Bath, top marks in the class for Thermofluids III and Control Systems II at University of Bath (85%), seeking a role in a project management capacity.

Objective

A conscientious Mechanical Engineering executive with experience in the Class A Cleanroom/medical device industry (BOM’s and ISO 9001) and the Industrial Relations field, with a PhD nearing completion in micro structures and product design is seeking employment in the Project Management/Design field.

Education: UK

Current: PMP with the Project Management Institute University of Bath: PhD in Biomimetics now progressing independently - The Functional Ecology and

Mechanical Properties of Biological Hooks. MEng (Mechanical Engineering) – Result – 2(1) Final Year Project, Bath University: Machine vision, coding the Canny Edge detection

method into C++ to produce a 3-D image of an object using a digital stills camera and a turntable rotating at controlled intervals. Solo functional activity. Project Management.

Experience

1. Research Officer, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Bath University (Staff approx. 200 academic, student population – approx. 10 000. Balanced Matrix Organisation).

Phd in Biomimetics/Bionics. Title: The functional ecology of hooks in Nature – scoping and refining scope to

produce a design of a probablistic fastener. Three papers are pending publication in Springer Verlag September Journal on

Robotics and Biomimetics. Solidworks and Rapid Prototyping. Project Scheduling, Management and Budget Control.

2. Amba Medical, Bristol now known as 3-P – Medical Device Manufacturer. (SME – approx. 70 employees. Weak Matrix Organisation).

Reporting to the MD and in consultation with stakeholders designed, prototyped and implemented a Manufacturing Information System as part of a work placement during 3rd year of undergraduate study in Visual Basic, complying with ISO 9001. In conjunction with the implementation of a Kanban system of manufacture (Lean), developing the job bag methodology applied through the Client Services Executive.

3. Bridgen Engineering (London) (SME – approx. 60 staff – Weak Functional Matrix Organisation).

The Rail Industry – track rejuvenation. Hands on operations, working on the replacement and welding of track at various locations in the UK. Studied for a PICOW (Person in Charge of Works) Exam but returned to study a degree at University instead. Team management and organisation/allocation of duties and work. Health and Safety supervision.

4. Natfhe (Trade Union Head Office, London) (approx. 60 staff): Project Management, Operations Management, Stakeholder Consultation and Problem Solving with Strategic Planning.

Project management at a union working in a Balanced Matrix Organisation, working with stakeholders to ballot 3 regions of a union successfully using the membership system according to procedures constrained by TULRA (1992) as amended by TURERA (1993). Lay employment law advice in short term contracts and stakeholder redundancy consultations, representing members of the union as a trade union officer.

Project led to success in balloting in an Industrial Relations Dispute, from registering the dispute through to issuing notices for strike action, the coordination was conducted without mishap or legal breach, thereby saving the union from a lawsuit for illegal strike action.

Independently installed an office administration system using an early version of Microsoft Word (prior to Office ’95). Stakeholder Representative in Redundancy Consultations as a trade union stakeholder in FE College restructuring and contract negotiations and Lay Advisor in Fixed term/short term contracts, Health and Safety legislation with reference to Health and Safety Committees implementing TULRA (1992) and TURERRA (1993).

Contributed substantially to the Union Knowledge Base by drafting Regional Office balloting procedures.

5. Manpower, London: – Various Temporary Office Support roles including Mobil North Sea Ltd. Treasury Department as accounts clerk and McKinsey and Co (Management Consultants), data input for KPI’s.

6. Amadeus Building, London: SME (approx 20). Building Restoration. Site Manager restoring 2 structures. Scheduling, managing and directing a team of specialist builders. Procurement.

7. Howden SAFANCO, Johannesburg: SME (approx. 90). Project – Plotting Industrial Impeller Performance Curves and designing an impeller test-rig including shaft-design, bearing specifications and transducers. Using Dimensionless Groups, programmed performance curves using HPGL. Complex fluid mechanics/mathematics, mechanical drafting and design.
