    Market position

As of 2006, the Bajaj Pulsars form the most popular motorbike product in the newlyemerging 150+ cc class of Indian two wheeler market. Bajaj have been regularly makingalterations to it to make the motorbike look fresh at all times.

    Versions

    2001

The original Pulsar came with a 150 cc or 180 cc air-cooled, single-cylinder, petrol,spark-ignited four-stroke engine. They featured a single spark plug to ignite the air-fuelmixture fed from a carburetor, simple spring shock absorbers, round headlamp domeand 1,235 mm wheelbase. Disc brakes as standard equipment was a novelty in Indianmotorcycles of the early 2000s. Other standard features were parking lights and anaircraft-type fuel tank lid. The 180 cc version came with Electric Start (ES) and twin-tonehorn, both of which were optional equipment on the 150 cc version.

    2003

The second generation Pulsars featured Bajaj Auto's newly developed DTSi technology, which increased the power rating of both versions by 1 bhp (0.75 kW) each and alsoincreased fuel economy. This model also sported a new headlamp assembly, 1,320 mmwheelbase, and standard twin-tone horn and trip meter.

    2005

In 2005, Bajaj launched another upgrade of the Pulsar. The bike was offered with 17-inch (430 mm) alloy wheels as standard option, and the stance was also lowered by

about 12 mm. It was the first time any bike maker in India had offered 17-inch (430 mm)profile wheels at the rear. The fuel tank now had a capacity of only 15 litres. The poweroutput was now further increased to 13.5 bhp (10.1 kW) @ 8500 rpm for the 150 while itincreased to 16.5 bhp (12.3 kW) @ 8500 rpm for the 180. The rear shock absorberswere now gas-filled Nitrox absorbers.

    2006

Bajaj introduced another version of Pulsar. New features included: pilot lampsseparated from the main headlamp, turn indicators with clear lenses and amber bulb,self-cancelling turn indicator switch, flush LCD screen with digital read-out of key vehicle

data, non-contact speed sensor, non-contact backlit switches, twin-stripe LED tail-lightassembly and side panels altered for a sharp, tapering-towards-the-rear look. Theengine had increased torque availability, reduced vibration and improved gear shift feel. They also introduced the 1 Down 4 Up variant of the Gear box for the first time on sub150 cc variants.

Main article: Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi

In July 2007, Bajaj began selling the Bajaj Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi and Pulsar 200 DTS-i,featuring fuel injection and oil cooled engines, a digital dash, and modern styling. Thisbike has some features which are totally new to the Indian market, like the fuel injectionitself, rear disc brake and clip-on handlebars (the last two only available in the 220model).

    Technology

    DTSi

DTSi stands for Digital Twin Spark Ignition, a Bajaj Auto trademark. The DTSi idea is asimple one to understand - it involved usage of two spark plugs (instead of the usualchoice of one) per engine cylinder.

you see in the picture is a Bajaj Pulsar. No, it is not the revamped Pulsar-180.

No, Bajaj hasnt given a secret makeover for the much-anticipated 220 cc DTS-FI.

This, hold your breath, biker boyz, is a Pulsar-200!

Merely weeks after springing a revamped Pulsar 180 on us without any buzz or promotions,

Bajaj has pulled another fast one yet again.

Despite being parked in the shadows of its bigger sibling, the P-200 is the first brute that catchesyour eye at the Auto Expo in Mumbai.

The squat, 18 bhp, oil-cooled beast ensures that you dont even throw as much as a cursoryglance towards the much-hyped DTS-FI.The naked chain makes gives it the perfect, mean, made-for-the-streets look.

To be launched in Bajajs pro-biking showrooms in January 2007, (thats what the Bajaj guy inthe stall at the expo promised) the P-200 has most of the goodies from the bigger Pulsar.

Tubeless tyres, the LCD speedo/analog tacho dash, split seats, two-piece grab rails, you name itand the P-200 has it.

Everything except the fuel injection, that is.

The bike, according to the Bajaj guys, is said to be slightly costlier than the Pulsar 180. Whichmeans, come January you must be able to lay your hands on the beast at around a miserly Rs70,000.These pictures should keep you rubbing your palms and smacking your lips till then.Just in case images of the P-220 are still in your memory, the DTS-FI will be out by April 2007,we are promised.

Now Bajaj has come up with new concept that is Bajaj Probiking

    History

A little after the turn of the millennium, we - a couple of Indian petrol-heads - realized

that a place was needed for us to do what we did best talk cars! There was just oneproblem: that platform didnt exist yet. We wanted to discuss Indian cars, exchangereviews, share tips and expand our automotive knowledge. GTO took the initiative ofcreating a small forum on the MSN Communities called Formula India. This messageboard offered nothing more than a free storage of messages on the MSN website. There were only ten to fifteen active members at the time. Even though the group wassmall and the features of that proto-community were limited, our passion was strong. And the determination overwhelming. With time, our group created a valuable archive ofcar reviews, advice on tuning and owning cars, manufacturer trends, lists of problematiccars and more.

At some point, we realized that the information on cars available from traditional mediaoutlets could be very misleading. This came as no surprise given the financial power ofthe automotive industrys advertising departments, but Indian petrol-heads surelydesurveyd better! Motivated by the enthusiasm with which the little MSN communitywas received, we decided to take the step of building an independent Indian automotivewebsite. We wanted a feature-rich community that could literally Red-line the Indian carscene a common platform where car enthusiasts could get together and have freeaccess to unbiased and honest information on the Indian car scene.

On the 10th of February, 2004, the Team-BHP domain was registered. On the 14th ofFebruary, Team-BHP went live. The name was chosen to emphasize that this was more

than just another interest group or forum it was a team strongly bonded by theirpassion for cars. The choice of the word BHP was even more obvious: they all wantedmore power! Altogether, the name describes a collaborative community driven by anddedicated to speed, power, reliability, efficiency and performance. Because of the limitedresources available at the start, Team-BHP was hosted on a shared surveyr with freelyavailable forum software. But the identity was unique and the spirit was strong. Within afew months we grew to 1,000 automobile enthusiasts and 50,000 articles. Eventually,we decided to host the community on a fully dedicated surveyr with the most feature-rich softwares available.

From its original 14 enthusiastic members, Team-BHP has gone on to become the

largest Indian automotive community with over 1 million content-rich posts, tens ofthousands of members and over 10 million annual visitors from all around the globe.

Bajaj Probiking has only five outlet in state they have placed in Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Nashik,Aurangabad. In Marathwada there is only one outlet of Probiking that is in Auranagabad.

    FACTORS INFLUENCING CONSUMER BUYING BEHAVIOUR

A consumer, making a purchase decision will be affected by the following three factors:

    1. Personal Factors2. Psychological Factors3. Social Factors

    Personal Fectors

These factors were varying from person to person. Demographic Factors. Sex, Race,Age etc. played major role in buying two wheelers for individual use.Young people in age group of 18-35yrs purchased two wheelers for different variousreasons while older people in age group of 35-50yrs purchased just for travellingpurpose only.

Psychological FectorsThere were many people who wanted to purchase two wheelers just because they hadsense of love and belonging for bikes. This was found more among Hero Honda user. They are mostly see performance of the bike and services that provided by companiesand want their bike to be smooth while driving the bike.

    Social Fectors

There were many people who bought bikes because of social factors like on theirparents, friends and relatives opinion. There were few people who bought their bikes for

style and status. Besides this to my surprise I found out that in todays world boys playmajor role in buying decisions for themselves and for their family also. This also played a greater role in purchasing decision of two wheelers by individuals.Boys who were in age group of 18-25yrs were more interested in features as comparedto other factors described.

FACTORS INFLUENCING SALES OF POWER BIKE

Features: It plays major role in sale on any bikes. Today people are more attractedtowards the features of bikes and are ready to spend huge amount of money on buyinga handset having huge numbers of features.E.g. Hero Honda karizma, Bajaj Pulasr , Yamaha

Price:- Price also plays a major role. Companies need to place their products in such a

way that it can differentiate itself from others by its price. If price of bike is kept low andmore features are provided to customers than company can create market for itself.

Availability:- Products need to be available easily. Customers dont like to travel much tobuy bikes. They prefer to get their bikes from nearest showrooms so in order to bemarket leader companies should make sure that there products are easily available tocustomers.

After sales service:- Companies should make sure that they provide good after saleservice to their customers and there problems are rectified as soon as possible. Theturnaround time should be very less that customers dont have to wait too long for their

    problems so to be solved.

Quality:- The quality of products should be very good. Todays customers want value formoney if that is not provided than company will find it difficult to position itself in themarket.

    RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

It is well known fact that the most important step in marketing research process is todefine the problem. Choose for investigation because a problem well defined is half solved. Thatwas the reason that at most care was taken while defining various parameters of the problem.

After giving through brain storming session, objectives were selected and the set on the base ofthese objectives. A questionnaire was designed major emphasis of which was gathering newideas or insight so as to determine and bind out solution to the problems.

    DATA SOURCE

Research included gathering both Primary and Secondary data. Primary data is the firsthand data, which are selected a fresh and thus happen to be original in character. Primary Datawas crucial to know various customers and past consumer views about bikes and to calculate themarket share of this brand in regards to other brands.

Secondary data are those which has been collected by some one else and which already

have been passed through statistical process. Secondary data has been taken from internet, newspaper, magazines and companies web sites.

    RESEARCH APPROACH

The research approach was used survey method which is a widely used method for datacollection and best suited for descriptive type of research survey includes research instrumentlike questionnaire which can be structured and unstructured. Target population is well identifiedand various methods like personal interviews and telephone interviews are employed.

    29/49

    LIMITATIONS

Research work was carried out in one Dist. of Aurangabad only the finding may not beapplicable to the other parts of the country because of social and cultural differences.

The sample was collected using connivance-sampling techniques. As such result may notgive an exact representation of the population.

Shortage of time is also reason for incomprehensiveness.

The views of the people are biased therefore it doesnt reflect true picture.
